Halifax suggestions

Hi everyone. My wife and I will be in Halifax on Aug. 15th off the Carribbean Princess. We are looking for suggestions for excursions. We are not hikers or wildlife afficinados. Is the Lunch tour for Peggys Cove worth the price or are we better off getting something on our own?

 

Being on a cruise to begin with I can't see taking a harbor duck tour.

 

Lunenberg vs Peggy's Cove?

Maritime Museum vs cemetary?

 

All suggestions welcome.

We will be there in September. We plan to take the tour that includes Peggy's cove and the pink hop on hop off bus.

You night want to go to the shore excursion board and the Roll Call for your cruise to ask the question.

We were there two years ago and rented a car for the day. Avis picked me up at the cruise terminal and dropped me back at the end of the day. We went to Peggy's Cove, the Citadel and a cemetary where some of the Titanic victims were buried. With gas, it was a little under C$90. It was my wife and I and a friend from a prior cruise, so about $30 per person.

We did a morning excursion to Peggy's Cove which is a lovely little place, but not somewhere you need a great amount of time. The restaurant was cute, but pretty crowded and attached to a big gift shop. I don't think I would be interested in eating lunch there. We had time for a quick lunch on the ship after our morning tour and then did an afternoon tour to the Fairview Cemetery and Maritime Museum which was really a highlight for us as we are very interested in Titanic history.

You may have time for a Peggy's Cove tour & a pleasant 10-15 minute walk along the harbor to the Maritime Museum. Even in the rain with an umbrella the walk wasn't too bad.

We were there in October and used Halifax Taxi Tours. They customized a tour for us. It was great, and Brian, our driver, was terrific! I think that the website is halifaxtaxitours.com .

We thoroughly enjoyed our morning tour to Peggy's Cove and then took a walk down the pier to a little brewery on the water for lunch. It was a very nice day and Peggy's Cove has beautiful scenery.

I am partial to anything Titanic.:) I have been to Halifax numerous times and enjoyed the Maritime Museum and the Fairview Cemetary. The Cemetary is very interesting with the way the markers are set up, etc.

 

We, unfortunately, were unable to get Brian of Halifaxtaxitours but talked with the people who did afterwards and they said he was great.:)

 

A trip to the Citadel is worth it. Peggys Cove is a beautiful spot if there is time.

If you are going to Peggy's Cove the trick is to rent a car (or arrange for a private car, taxi or van) and get there before the bus tours. Have a quick look, avoiding the restaurant and gift shop and then continue on with your day. It is a beautiful spot.

 

For the rest of the day you could take other scenic drives, or go back to Halifax and walk along the waterfront, etc.

Lunenburg is great, but if you have not been to Halifax you should explore it first.

 

I would prefer the Maritime Museum to the cemetery with a few tombstones, but it is a matter of personal preference.

Hi. We will be on the same cruise as you. Also have been thinking about Halifax excursions and so far are looking into the one that combines Peggy's cove with HOHO bus - want to explore Halifax in the afternoon, esp the Maritime museum.
