truffles2 Posted August 14, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 14, 2011 The prices seem to be about the same as in our stores. You will save sales tax. The selection is limited.
teajak Posted August 14, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 14, 2011 I forgot my makeup on the last cruise and was amazed at how expensive it was and the small selection on the ship.Don't expect any good deals except for the tax.

Are you referring to US prices? Were in the UK, prices are more expensive again. So for us is a great saving. Generally most buts on board are great to us Brits, was just curious to an actual price to compare the difference. DW is looking to buy some eye shadow here in Scotland but is quite expensive, so seems like it's worth the waiting till end of next month to make her purchase onboard or over the pond. ClaireP Posted August 14, 2011 #5 Share Posted August 14, 2011 Not sure what itinerary you are on but you may get some deals in caribbean ports
marshmouse Posted August 14, 2011 #6 Share Posted August 14, 2011 The Freedom class ships have a fairly large selection of Estee Lauder, and I found the prices to be about 30% cheaper than back home. Duty free prices. Large selection of other name brands also. I liked it and I am a make-up junkie! :D

In some cases things cost even more than in the states.
cruisenfever Posted August 14, 2011 #9 Share Posted August 14, 2011 Also be cautious because if the turn over rate is not that great, some items could be sitting on the shelf for a long period of time and actually lose their effectiveness...........or smell pretty bad.:D

Scotland01 Posted August 14, 2011 #11 Share Posted August 14, 2011 Lauder products cost the same in $ as in £ I have found better selection in US dept. stores and the available gift much lower spend than home. Airport duty free also worth checking before you leave US

truffles2 Posted August 14, 2011 #20 Share Posted August 14, 2011 Has anyone though got a price example though for any product they bought!? You can get a feel for store prices by googling at Macy's or some other large store; possibly even the EL site.
maxy35 Posted August 14, 2011 Author #21 Share Posted August 14, 2011 what is the tax you guys pay on items in the States??
dagored Posted August 14, 2011 #22 Share Posted August 14, 2011 Depends on the state you purchase your item in. States set their own sales tax along with local counties, cities etc. No national VAT in the states.

swcruise Posted August 15, 2011 #24 Share Posted August 15, 2011 Hi, Just as an FYI, if you are cruising in the Med and your ship departs Spain and does not leave the EU ,then there will be 15% VAT added to store purchases due to Spanish Govt rules. Also if you are from the EU, I don't think that you can recalaim tax I think that may just be open to Us cruisers...
