Does debarkation happen early in Civitavecchia

Hi All,

We arrive at 4:30am in Civitavecchia November 18 on Celebrity Equinox

We have an early flight out of FCO (10:20 am)

Does this port usually clear the ships quickly?

Thanks for any input to cruisers whom have gone through debarkation in this Roman port recently.

Yes, that port usually clears ships very quickly (generally in about 20 minutes). However, you need to consider a few other factors. Ships can sometimes be late getting into any port due to weather, waiting for a pilot. etc. Civitavecchia is approximately a 1 hour drive from FCO and it is wise to arrive at that airport at least 2 1/2 - 3 hours before an international flight. The major delay in getting off any ship is waiting for the luggage to be off-loaded so you would want to use express disembarkation (you must carry all your own luggage). And then there is the issue of transportation...where you need to be very certain that your "ride" will leave the port no later then 7 am (and 6:30 would be better).

Adding on--

If you are traveling on a European airline you go straight to the terminal for check in.

Add extra time if you are traveling on an American airline- Delta, Continental, American, etc. These passengers get processed in an outbuilding, shuttled to the terminal (with luggage) then are checked in.
