Why does everyone want the top of the ship or a higher deck? Just courious, up-grades take you eather up a deck or to a better catagory, Why Up? I like it up there but not even sure why? I booked a gty balcony but a couple of months later there was a special for $100 for 1st and 2nd person ($200 total), did not have to pay anything for the 3rd person though, and it moved us to the Panorama deck. Thats 5 decks! I did it, not sure why. I was already in a balcony but I bet I like it up there!:) I tryed to re-book this weekend for that deck and it would be more that $600 total for that level now for us! Glad I booked a year ago. Would like to hear why you like to get up there?:) Thanks for the input!

I think the people like it up there because it is close to the pools and the buffet place. Ships like the Spirit class= I would think it doesnt matter coz a lot of activities are happening on the lower decks.

I like it up there too, but I like $$$ more! I always book a balcony. If I'm offered an upgrade to a higher balcony.....I just take a ship board credit instead. Now....if I'm upgraded to a suite - that's a different story!!!

We booked an O.V. on the lowest deck (Riviera) mid-deck on the Conquest last June because we wanted to ward off any potential of sea-sickness; plus, we were also paying for an adjoining room for our adult children.....needed to conserve dollars. We were happy with the deck.....didn't need to be on or near the decks with all the ********.....enjoyed the quiet anyway. We just didn't feel it was worth the extra dollars to be up on the higher deck. So, you have to wait an extra minute or 2 for the elevator....no biggie for us. Enjoyed every minute of it.

We enjoy the Panorama Deck because of the close proximity to where the action is. During Sea Days, we spend most of our time on the Lido Deck so all we have to do is walk out the door and we are on the upper levels of the sunning tiers. If we need something from our cabin, it's a short walk back. Most importantly, we can use our own bathroom and not have to use the Lido Deck ones that can become crowded and sometimes not all that clean. The Panorama Decks also have fewer cabins so there is less hallway traffic.

To those who have had balconies on the lowest possible level (deck 6?) or oceanviews on the lowest possible level - is there an advantage to closer proximity to the water? Spotting dolphins, that sort of thing? Just curious, as we saw no marine life from our balcony - maybe that's normal (it was our first cruise, and a western caribbean itinerary...)

Thanks for any thoughts on the matter!

You know....now that I think about it, we were in an O.V. on the Riviera Deck on the Conquest and didn't see much ocean life like dolphins.....did see some flying fish though. We did enjoy watching the big waves during a stormy few hours. Very exciting and calming during the pretty weather. My 24 (going on 2....lol!) y.o. daughter also enjoyed curling up on the deep window sill and watching the water. We were also able to watch the river pilots and harbour pilots come aboard from their little boats to the ship from our window. We loved our stateroom.

We were on the Empress Deck (7) on the Triumph with a balcony and loved the location. We were 2 decks belowthe Lido with the food and pool and 2 decks above the casino and shops. We loved the location. We did not see any dolphins, but did see some fish of some sort. Plus we were between decks of rooms, so it was very quiet. Great location.

We had an IS deck 2 - it looked like the rooms on the higher decks with balconys were larger. Correct me if I'm wrong. The only thing that I really noticed is that they called the higher decks for disembarkment before the lower decks.

I am in agreement with RWolver. We enjoy the Panorama Deck because we are just a few steps away from the Lido deck and can easily use our own cabin for restroom breaks. We book an inside though, and still save a few bucks. We are not ones to use the balcony. We would rather sit with our group on the Lido deck and sip foo foo drinks.

Some people also move to higher decks if they are staying in a balcony room to try to avoid other people's seasickness dropping from the decks above (sounds gross, but that's why we do it). The higher decks are also closer to everything, adn they have less noise than the lower decks (engines, etc).

We booked a guarantee balcony (Upper Deck - 6) and were upgraded to Panorama - 10. No noises from deck chairs (which I've read complaints about on deck 8) or from the disco/casino (complaints from those on deck 6). We were under the spa and Camp Carnival, which made it very convenient for drop-offs/pick-ups of the kids. And in the morning, we could just walk aft out to the deck and drop down to the Lido deck for breakfast. We've booked a guarantee balcony again, knowing that an upgrade is questionable since we've also booked an inside guarantee - but who knows?

We are staying in the balcony suite on Panorama all the way on the back of the ship.... Do you think we'll hear anything (like people using the pool, or the music from the bar) from the Lido deck?

I am still about trying for Empress deck, to stay with our friends (we couldn't get 2 rooms on the same deck at the time of booking...), and if it doesn't happen, tell me I wouldn't regret staying on Panorama! :)

Thanks!

We always book the lowest price possible. That way we can cruise more often AND we get exercise from all the stair climbing. NO, we don't use elevators to get from deck to deck. I agree that you have less tendency to seasickness lower in the ship also. It doesn't matter where you sleep, all passengers have equal access to everything.

It is my understanding, and experience that the best thing deck wise is to be above and below cabins vs say under the pool level where late at night they are shuffling deck chairs back into formation for the next days lounging. Also you want to not be say under the disco or the buffet rooms. Lastly, it's best if you want any kinda quiet, to steer clear of cabins near the elevators. That's what I understand. We're going on the Conquest this coming weekend """"YIPPEEE""" and were given choice of veranda deck or empress and chose (as our agent suggested) a balcony cabin towards center of ship not near elevators with cabins above and below. If we'd have taken the higher floor, we'd have been directly under the pool and possibly the late night deck chair rhumba or rumble. Also, if you do have a balcony bring a bungi cord or two so you can keep your door open all night...the sound is magical.

we were also upgraded from a cat 8A to a Cat 8E, picked the Panorama deck on the Valor. Cabin 1030, anyone ever have that one?

I was thinking it was close to the pool, a quick elevator ride to the kid's club, which is just two decks above us. I hope I made the right decision.

We have only taken a cruise twice but both times we were located on the Empress deck. We really enjoyed it because it was very quiet, we didn't have to go far to get up to the higher decks or to go below. Although we really enjoyed the balcony and sometimes rather than going up on the Lido deck, we just stayed on the balcony to relax and enjoy watching the water go by. Another plus was we were in the middle of the ship and had less roll...although when we hit some rough weather I enjoyed the roll, it put me right to sleep.

We've been all over the ship, inside, outside and balcony rooms, Main, Upper, Empress, and Panorama. The absolute best location we ever had was on the Panorama deck on the Glory last year. We had booked a guarantee, but when prices dropped we were able to upgrade to that location for free. That being said, I loved it, but I doubt I would pay extra for it. Our next cruise may not be until December 2006, so that should give us plenty of time to try and book our cruise during an "upgrade for free" sale.

Booked a guarantee and were upgraded once, and became hooked!! Can't beat as another poster said having quick access to your cabin for restroom, refreshrments, etc. We are snackers, so we like to be close to the food. We've found it's not so much more to go higher, and it's worth about $100 to do so. However, we always book inside... we live in Fl and i work at a fancy beach resort, so we are lucky enough to see the sea daily... THAT money we save for spending in the ports. I'd love to have a balcony, and we always say next time... but... well, we can never do it!! next time!!
