During embarkation, when your credit card is swiped, an initial approval of $50 is obtained. Then, throughout the voyage incremental holds will be obtained as needed. You should know, this will reduce the amount of available credit on the credit card or restrict the availability of cash in the checking/debit account. Authorization hold releases to your account is entirely up to your issuing bank.

All charges will be automatically billed at the end of the voyage. On the final morning of the cruise, a statement detailing all purchases made with your Sail & Sign card will be delivered to your stateroom. If you made a cash deposit and there is an overpayment at the end of the cruise, you will receive the overpayment in the form of a check, attached to the detailed statement received on the final morning of the cruise.

The error is with your bank and not carnival. Contact your bank and tell them to remove the pending transaction. Usually, most transactions get cleared in 5-10 business days

If its a credit card there would be no bank involved. If it's a DEBIT card, then those authorizations can take up to a month to fall off. Use a credit card.

Each credit card has an issuing bank. And that bank always puts a hold on your credit card also. People usually don't notice since they don't monitor a credit card balance as closely as a debit card balance. But, there is a bank involved in both cases.

And all those holds can remain on there even after they've actually applied the final charges so you could have lots of your credit line tied up.

My bank doesn't do it that way. Once a pending charge (as they call the holds) are charged to your account the hold is released, even if the pending charge still shows up when you check your balance on-line. No double holds that way. This is from the bank website:

Pending Transactions

A pending transaction is an item that has not yet posted to your account but is pending and therefore, held against your available credit. Normally, a pending item converts into a posted transaction, but if a merchant does not complete the transaction it will expire and the temporary funds hold will be removed. Some merchants such as gas stations will only authorize your account for $1.00, however the transaction will post to your account for the total amount of your purchase. If you see a transaction listed below as pending that has already posted to your account, it will no longer have an effect on your available credit, however it will continue to display as a Pending Transaction for 7 days from the transaction date.
