Virginoftheseas Posted September 28, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 28, 2011 I was wondering if there might be a chance our flight from NY to ft lauderdale while landing would we be able to see the cruise port/ships while in the air. We've flown into Miami and have seen many ships in port before we landed but we weren't going on a cruise then.
Reader0108598 Posted September 28, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 28, 2011 We fly in from Bradley and frequently see the ships as we are landing :D Also see them as we are flying out:( ...lol Reader
CruiserBruce Posted September 28, 2011 #3 Share Posted September 28, 2011 You should. Best to sit on the right side (facing forward). There is a standard approach that takes you right over the southern end of the cruise port area.
eandj Posted September 28, 2011 #4 Share Posted September 28, 2011 IF you fly in on the right days, of course.
DanJ Posted September 28, 2011 #5 Share Posted September 28, 2011 If you land to the west, you come in over the ocean, and the right side of the plane would give a view of the port. Unfortunately, most of the time I've flown there, we have landed to the east.

We've flown into Miami and have seen many ships in port before we landed but we weren't going on a cruise then. It depends on the approach and your seating. Suggest checking the HDTV Web Cam to get a good port view.
KreinKrunker Posted October 2, 2011 #7 Share Posted October 2, 2011 ........while landing would we be able to see the cruise port/ships while in the air. It all depends on the wind direction the day you land. If the wind is out of the west, you will fly over the port when you land. Be sure you are on the right side of the aircraft. If the wind is out of the east, you will not see the port. It is just the opposite for take off, except you want to be on the left side.
tekman26 Posted October 2, 2011 #8 Share Posted October 2, 2011 Since FTL has 2 landing strips and 9 times out of 10 you land from west to east you would not see the ships. The only way to see them is landing from east to west and you would need to be on the right side of the plane. However, since most planes take off toward the ocean you can see the ships on the left side of the plane. The wind in FTL normally comes in from the ocean.
