Car Service to Airport in Athens

We are docking in Piraeus (Athens) Greece on 11/14/11 and were originally booked with an Oceania connection to the airport for a flight home. That flight was changed, so we're leaving early on the 15th. Our concern is with transport to the airport after our overnight hotel stay with the on and off possibility of labor actions around the monetary crisis. We expect a private car service would be more sure. (We'd hate to miss our early morning flight home because of a train/bus/cab strike!) Any suggestions of car services that are dependable and reasonably priced?

Also, any suggestions of hotels or activities for our added vacation day?

Thanks.

We had no trouble getting a taxi at the pier to our hotel when we got off an R class ship. The hotel called a taxi when we were ready to go to the airport. But there were no labor troubles then.

I suggest you e-mail your hotel and let them guide you, better than our guesses.

Although I am generally VERY in favor of planning transfers in advance, what you want to remember about these labor actions in Greece is that flexibility will be your best friend.

The thing about just catching a taxi is that the car is AT your hotel when you hail it.

There is nothing more anxiety provoking than watching other guests zip off while you wait for your pre-planned car to arrive out of the traffic maze of the protests.

Unless your hotel is very off the beaten track, I'd be more inclined to have the doorman get me a cab on that morning.

We too are taking the early flight on the 15th. We have booked a tour for the day with a guide who will pick us up at the pier. Because of the strife in Athens we will stay at the airport. When we conclude our tour the guide will take us to the hotel. Should be no problem in the morning

Hi there,

I arrived in Piraeus on the 1st on Marina & had been recommended www.stargroup.gr over on the Silversea forum.

Their customer service is very good & they are prompt. For a C Class Mercedes we paid €55 from Piraues to Athens airport - the car was clean & the driver spoke perfect English. You will need to book via the form on the website & then pay by PayPal (a little long winded), after which you will receive an email voucher as confirmation. The journey at 0900 took around 45 minutes.

Hope this helps :)

Oddly enough when we were there we had the doorman get us a cab, it was an E Class Mercedes, nice and clean and the driver spoke ok english. He knew where the airport was, that's all we needed. Took about 30-45 minutes from the Intercontinental and was 35eu plus the tip. Paid in cash once we were at the airport.

Just to second SMB'S plan above.

A couple of years ago, when we were playing "dodge the volcano", we had to fly out of Athens as the northern European airports were closing left and right. We stayed at the Sofitel Athens Airport hotel. It is literally across the street from the terminal. We merely rolled our bags across the street and were good to go! The hotel was very quiet despite it's proximity to the airport--maybe, because of all the cancellations:-)

The year before we had stayed at the AVA hotel which is near the Plaka. It took us about 45 minutes to get there from the airport on a Sunday evening. We used Star Taxi service and found them to be very professional.

Hope you have a great trip!
