What's the cheapest longer cruise you've taken?

Recommended Posts

My wife and I returned from the 11/26/2012 on the Equinox. We went on a group rate for 14 nts. We paid $829 +tax each.

When the economy was bad, we took the Celebrity Mercury from Baltimore to the Bahamas in 12/2010 for $359 each for a 9 nt cruise. On board we paid an additional $75 for an upgrade to a Verandah.

Later this year we are looking at theCelebrity Solstice out of Encinada to Hawaii.

In 2015 it is our plan to take a TA from Barcelona back to the U.S.

Cheers,

Michael

Not posting a deal, just asking a question to those of you great prices, was it through your TA, did you scour the web or did anyone call the cruise line directly to play lets make a deal.

G

I signed up at several of the discount cruise web sites. That worked nicely when they could undercut the cruise line price, but now they can't. However the emails still give me ideas of which cruise line to look at for current deals.

The ta's are almost always the best deal and luckily we like sea days.

We'd cruise a lot more often if airfare weren't such a bugger and if we could get direct flights rather than always having to connect in a hub city.

MSC Poesia in 3 weeks, 3/9/13 7 nights $299 just got upgraded to a balcony. can't wait..

Cash01,

The same thing happened to us and we also got the same rate! :) What deck did you get moved to?

We may be interested in sharing a taxi to Trunk Bay (we've been there snorlking before)... but we are traveling with my aunt and uncle ... so I'll want to check with them to see if they have made plans for for St Thomas. We're not glued at the hip and don't necessarily do everything together, but we may want to do whatever they are doing. Just so you know ... we're not exactly kids. We're retired ... but not "old" LOL

If they're interested ... would you mind if my aunt and uncle join in? (My uncle is more fun than a barrel of monkeys)

We are on deck 11 in the front. We are not kids either, I am old enough to retire but still working and Stacy is almost 50(don't tell her I told you :D) as for your aunt and uncle joining us the more the merrier. Glad we "met" DD's mom...:)

Cash,

We (and my aunt & uncle too) were moved to deck 11 also. They are nearer the front, we are nearer the back. How do you suggest we "find" each other on the ship to discuss the excursion? Would you like to email me your response?

DD's Mom, have you seen this tour I saw it on another thread, I think we will do this in the Bahamas

We took advantage on our last cruise ( Feb 2013) of a program operated by the Bahamas' Ministry of Tourism that we would highly recommend to anyone tired of the excursions that the cruise line offers and in search of something more interesting than power shopping. The program is called People To People and complete information on it is available at http://www.bahamas.com/bahamas/people-people. This program asks for basic likes and dislikes info then matches you up with a native Bahamian at the island of your choice. ( We opted for Freeport. ) This person will act as your guide and show you around the island based on your listed likes and dislikes. Our contact called us about a week before our arrival to introduce himself and discuss our day in Freeport. He then met us at the port, showed us around the island and the town of Freeport, and returned us to the port about an hour before takeoff. Our particluar contact was a retired Bahamian police officer and was a totally enjoyable and interesting person to spend a day with. We saw areas most tourists would never find and learned a lot about the area, it's people and their culture. In all, he escorted us for about 6 hours in his personal vehicle. The program is at no cost and is by far the best way to see what an area is really like and learn about it's people and culture. We attempted to buy him some gas ( it's $5 a gallon there) but he adamantly refused our offer. After some insistence on our part he did agree to allow us to buy his lunch which turned out to be another great experience as he took us to a place well off the beaten path that had excellent food and just happened to be run by a neighbor of his. Something he did mention in passing that I thought was interesting was he did many of these escorts and had found that couples without children and those not interested in heavy partying seemed to enjoy the experience more. As for us, we would highly recommend the experience. In fact, the next time we go to Nassau (been there three times already) we will avail ourselves of this opportunity again just to see a much different aspect of the island.

Sounds too good to be true :)

WOW! It DOES sound too good to be true. I've done a little online research (Trip Advisor etc), and so far I can't find any negative comments about the People to People program. (I like to be particularly careful - guess I'm just a little bit of a sceptic)

Sounds very interesting!!! Thanks for sharing!

We have booked 2-7 day cruises at $499 each...won 2 cruises (playing poker on the cruisline)...and had 3 paid for by parents:p

BUT my parents got the best deal. They cruised the Sunday after 9/11. 10 days out of Vancouver to Hawaii. When they got to Hawaii, they were given the offer to stay on the ship for 10 more days to Ensenada for $50pp/day...and since they were willing to share a room w/ travel companions, they were given the owner's suite at this price!!! (yep, $500 for 10 days in an owner's suite) They could have done it for 2 more weeks through the Panama Canal at the same price. They still are kicking themselves for not doing that...

On our Star 3/07 cruise.

Our cruise was oversold so they called them, offered to move them to another Princess ship departing the same day, but a 10 day instead of a 7 day cruise, upgrade to a suite and $1800 OBC....we couldn't figure out why they were on our cruise!!! They said they were traveling w/ another couple so they couldn't (and the other couple was SO annoying...and the couple who got this offer were such, such sweet people!) We looked at the couple we were traveling with & they looked at us and we all agreed--we would have taken it! (we can always cruise together some other time!!!)

I'm a little confused. I assumed that since you "friended" me and I accepted ... that it would work like Facebook and we could chat privately. If we can't chat privately, ... then what's the advantage of the friend request? Can anyone shed any light on how this works?

I booked a 10 Day TA on RCI in April, San Juan to Lisbon... $299 pp upgrade to OV same price as inside. That was cool but then last week the TA called and said that RCI was offering me a balcony upgrade for $100 more pp. Booked it!

So ten days, balcony, $399 pp.

I had no intention booking a cruise, but the price was so good I couldn't afford not to.

  • 5 weeks later...

Scored a really good deal from Royal C. -- but should have been even better if they didn't jack up the port charges !

Last month I saw a $349 (d.occ) price on Royal C. balcony rooms for the 4/13/13, 10-day Brilliance trip San Juan to Lisbon.

As a single, total price (taxes, prepaid grats) for the balcony was $777. Then take off $200 for Crown/Anchor certificate . . . plus I booked through Delta cruises, and received 15,000 bonus miles too ($150 value?).

Total cost of fare considering discounts: $422 total for 10 days single in a D1 balcony ! (Oh, and two free dinners in the premium restaurant).

One note: I think Royal (or Delta cruises) did a bait and switch with the port charges and taxes. My same trip on travelocity: port/tax= $57.80

Same trip on Delta cruises: port/tax $257.80

Since I got 15,000 extra miles credited going through Delta, I don't feel totally ripped -- but NOBODY at either Delta cruises or Royal can (or will) explain to me WHY there is a difference in port/tax charges between these travel agents? There shouldn't be !! I got nothing but bullcrap responses.

Still not a bad deal :)

Back in 2010 my wife and I were on one of the follow-up noro-virus cruises from Celebrity. Well, we were enticed by the receipt of an additional 25 percent off a future cruise. Anyway, we took a 9 day Bahamas Cruise for $349 each + port charges from Baltimore - once again on the Celebrity Mercury.

Thus, we paid $798 plus we received an upgrade to Balcony for an additional $75. We received a $100 credit from Celebrity and a $50 credit from AAA. Hence our trip costed us $723 + port charges. Oh, we drove to Baltimore and stayed in the sleep inn for $72 and they gave us breakfast, r/t shuttle and free parking for the 9 days.

Although the first three days were cold, I celebrated my 50 th on Coco Cay going jet skiing for the first time in my life. :)

Last Fall we sailed on RCI in an outside room, 14 days from Southampton to Ft. Lauderdale for $574. We try to do a T/A each year because the rates are the best. Airfare was just $445 booked through Choice Air which is offered through RCI and Celebrity.
