bookpage Posted October 24, 2011 #1 Share Posted October 24, 2011 Just received a card in the mail today from Carnival. It says: "In celebration of our Anniversary in your area, you have been selected to receive a Complimentary 7 Day Cruise for 2 with outside cabin, leaving from any major port in the U.S., including Galveston, TX. Call with in 72 hours. You will also receive as a bonus Dinner for 2 at Olive Garden or Red Lobster!" Smells like scam to me, but wanted to see what others thought. Have not even gone on my first cruise yet. Will leave Nov 7 for Galveston. TIA,

TIA, It is a scam throw it in the trash..........if you read the fine print you will see that this is not Carnival sending this to you......you would probably be required to pay all taxes, FEE's and port charges and would find that it would be cheaper to actually book the same cruise on your own. People do win cruises, I have but usually only as a result of contests, not unsolicited emails or post cards.
voosman12 Posted October 24, 2011 #4 Share Posted October 24, 2011 If its too good to be true... Read the fine print. Guarantee its a third party with lots of "fine print"

bookpage Posted October 24, 2011 Author #7 Share Posted October 24, 2011 if it were a cruise, maybe, but a curise? throw it away, regardless. 'Your' so funny! Like I said, I thought it was a scam, but want other people's thoughts. It's in the trash. Thank you everyone for your input.
firefly333 Posted October 24, 2011 #8 Share Posted October 24, 2011 Just received a card in the mail today from Carnival. It says: , Its not from Carnival .. look closer. Its like a time share, except they are selling a vacation club.. I did go thru with it and got the most terrible cabin I never imagined existed (usually storage with a green tv). Throw it away, you can get better discounts than that.
LorrieB Posted October 24, 2011 #9 Share Posted October 24, 2011 My favorite is the one on the phone that has the Cruise Ship blowing it's horn in the background while telling you about the cruise you just won. I mean really, if it wasn't legit how did they get that horn?

elusiveunicorn001 Posted October 24, 2011 #11 Share Posted October 24, 2011 O K maybe I may be able to help some with this...I work for Carnival for over 4 years now and am familiar with these promotions, and this is exactly what these cards are... A company that may want you to sit in thier place of business for a seminar for maybe 8 hours of your life so they can sell you either a vacation club membership, or a wholesale product membership or a time share membership, whatever the membership they want you to buy into they will get you through their doors with a free cruise offer like this... People are correct when saying you do have to pay the government taxes and port fees and that the cruise will be very very restricted to you being able to drop you life at a moments notice to take the "free" cruise... In other words you are very limited to being able to make the cruise day(s) wise speaking... And also, the type of cabin that they are planning on placing you in will either be a 1A (upper/lower-bunk bed) type cabin or a PT (outsied) porthole window type cabin... If you are willing to do so you can pay extra monies of your own accord and up grade the type of cabin however like the previous posters have advised this is not a "free" cruise and it will be much less espensive for you to just call Carnival direct and make a reservation directly instead of trying to take a cruise using one of these marketing tools that you will definately spend a lot of your personal time and energy and not to mention money on this marketing ploy.. Good luck with this though if you choose to go ahead with this!!!
DryCreek Posted October 25, 2011 #12 Share Posted October 25, 2011 And also, the type of cabin that they are planning on placing you in will either be a 1A (upper/lower-bunk bed) type cabin or a PT (outsied) porthole window type cabin... Hey, I'm good with a PT cabin! But yeah, the ones we get are shilling for vacation/travel planning services that are front-loaded with fees and membership costs that seem kinda dodgy. Still, I have been known to sit in on timeshare presentations to get "free stuff". We have a fun little charade we play. We keep saying NO! until they take us to the "closer" (the high pressure guy at the end) and then I appear to cave, and the wife moans aloud "you know the bankruptcy attorney told us to not commit on anything else"! To where I reply, "I know, but if we call early enough tomorrow/Monday I bet he can add this too. We usually get escorted out quickly and handed the prize. I can hold my laughter until we are in the Jeep heading away from the timeshare.....sometimes (really depends on the shocked look on the tough guys face). I was told unless I accepted the 1A then I had to pay full price. Went on for a year trying to get a cruise, promised Galveston on the postcard. Finally after a year I got to a TA who was sending me full priced upgrade prices. She said by sending in the money you agree to not holding them to what was promised on the postcard. Galveston promised, sorry ok .. we can give you a 1A out of Miami. Im not flying to Miami. Finally gave me Triumph out of New Orleans, said Galveston is premium port, not possible. GOOD NEWS, they upgraded you to a 4A .. oh joy. Very last cabin aft inside, bottom deck (storage room as I noted earlier with broken tv). The walls and the ceiling had banging noises 24/7. couldnt hear the tv hardly and couldnt see it well thru the green color. Cabin steward said they fixed the tv over and over, doesnt stay fixed. I couldnt sleep thru the noise. Triumph does have a vibration aft problem I decided its true. It really sounded like the engine was against our back wall. People might think Im exaggerating, but it was that loud of a banging against our back wall and ceiling. enough if you feel asleep another loud bang would have you startled out of your sleep. I had always said up until now I am totally not picky about cabin, put me anywhere. This made me change my mind.

Cruisin' Chick Posted October 26, 2011 #19 Share Posted October 26, 2011 We get one of these every few months. As someone else said, it's a scam to get you to attend a time share type of presentation. Unless you've actually entered a contest, you have to be suspicious of these "prizes." HeidiHo Posted October 26, 2011 #20 Share Posted October 26, 2011 Call with in 72 hours. You will also receive as a bonus Dinner for 2 at Olive Garden or Red Lobster!" , I work at an Olive Garden and I wonder if this is the group that tried to take over one of our dining rooms about a month ago. I know it was some sort of time share and they set up in one of our dining rooms and gave the people who came in to talk to them a free dinner while they listened to their presentation. Our manager on duty that night was OK with it but they were supposed to be there about 3 nights and the next night a different manager was working and he didn't like it so he called our director and the director told him to ask them to leave. They were pretty mad I guess but they left and went down to the TGI Friday's down the street. Since I'm a front door host I spent the rest of the night telling people who came in for the time share presentation that it had moved to Friday's.
