Naughty Room

We recieved a note to visit the Naughty Room on the Star. It was located in a crew passageway and out of sight of any other passengers. Sadly, we weren't called for booze but for my sons pocketknife. It wasn't like a monster hunting knife or anything, just a small lockblade knife. In any case I agreed that he didn't need it on the ship and they happily returned it at disembarkation. The funny thing about this is that when we were on the Star in Alaska a couple years before I purchased 10 different knives and brought them on the ship with no problems a all.

Last cruise on the Epic we were called down to the naughty room. To be honest I thought it would be more embarrassing but I wasn't really at all. Everyone there, well almost everyone, was there for the same reason. Nobody is line was laughing at u, it was a separate room out of sight of the cruise crowd and even if it wasnt... Who cares. There r so many people on the ship that if someone's week cruise is consumed with remembering who was in the naughty room thats there time wasted. Well worth the chance, IMO. soon enough Ill be back on a cruise and try to dodge that silly room, hopefully I'll succeed. :)

So what do they do for you if they start you out on your cruise by having to wait in line at the naughty room to dig out your innocent miracle grow hair tonic? Do you still have to carry your bag to your quarters? Do they give you a couple of the rum runners they confiscated from other paxs for your inconvenience?

As far as I know you get nothing (maybe an apology, but security isn't known for being overly apologetic about doing their job).

It is interesting reading the posts here. Clearly, most of the people who are "sent" the naguhty room are not "innocent" victims--with the exception of maybe one or two posters, everyone has acknowledged they knowingly have tried (or will try)to bring on a restricted item (alcohol). I really don't get the impression that most folks are doing this because of money. If you can afford the cruise, you can afford the cost of buying drinks on board. It almost seems like a game, or a compulsion to be able to say they were able to break the rules and get away with something that most people could not or chose not to do. It is almost like when we were kids, and we got a thrill for sneaking a smoke, or cutting class just to show how cool we were. It makes me wonder how much other behavior that is often received as far more critical on here, e.g. chair hogging, is committed in the same light. "Yeah--I knew the rules about reserving chairs, but I did what I wanted anyway, and nobody said a word or did a thing about it. I got away with it." Its pretty clear that people know the rules, but they are choosing to try and break them. And its not like it is a secret--I had never heard of rumrunners before this post, but their existance highlight that there is an "industry" (ok--maybe that word is a bit too strong) set up to ostensibly help people break the rules other people put in place.

A previous poster reinforced all of this by mentioning that getting caught is a badge of honor, and others indirectly alluded to this by suggesting NCL see tee-shirts that commemorate being caught (and it is a pretty funny idea).

I guess in the end, there is just some primal urge for man to see how far he/she can push the boundaries.

I am planning on bringing on a few bottles of vino and paying the corkage fee. I was also going to pack a swiss army knife with a corkscrew so I can open the bottles in my room. In addition, I like having a multi-purpose tools with me for whatever eventually may arise. Will they confiscate the knife until the end of the trip? Should I pack a corkscrew instead, or would that be confiscated as well?

As long as you pack the knife and tool in your checked bag no problem. I always bring both.

Well said.

Some of us are rule followers (me) and some are not (sister). She was very proud of herself... and no, I did not drink any of her smuggled booze. It was on Royal Carib. not NCL.

Where exactly is the naughty room and how do you know if you have to go there? Also, what if you have rum runners? Will they just take it out and deliver your luggage or will you still have to go to the naughty room?

Hate to mention this, but rum runners usually make it through without being detected. If they are, your luggage will go to the "naughty room" and you will get a little message on your cabin door. You will have to report, open your luggage and remove the booze. They will keep it for you until the last day of the cruise.

We had baggage that didn't make it to our room either...lol....finally got a note on our door to "Come on Down", to the Naughty room:eek:.....needless to say, wasn't embarrassing, we didn't smuggle anything in our bags, they xrayed our bags and found some suspicious items, turned out to be our cables, chargers to our electronics....they were just doing their jobs to keep us all safe....

HAPPY SAILING!

No Nita, if it's a rum runner they will destroy it. The only thing you get back is an unopened bottle of booze.

For the one's that do this for the challenge and not the money, what do you call it when you eat in a restaurant and walk out without paying? How is it different if you sneak something onboard that NCL is entitled to be paid for?

You can try to justify it by saying it's not illegal, but you can't say it isn't immoral. I often wonder if this is how some children are being raised? If you don't get caught, it's ok??

Lot's of folks say it's not about the money, "I could pay if I wanted to", why don't you?

My husband forgot to remove his pocket knife from his pants, so I took it from him and put it in my purse...I put the purse through the exray machine and they didn;t seem to find it....Its not that big, but I was surprised that they didn;t see it...

My husband uses the rum runners on our cruises. I think its funny as we can easily afford to get rum on board. He just likes to have his own personal supply in our room of brands he likes. If he gets busted he can go to the naughty room on his own while I hang out at the casino. LOL That said, I don't see it as embarrassing going to the naughty room. LOL If it happens to him I'm sure it will be a running joke throughout the cruise. :) Rum runner are also very cheap so if they are destroyed he will just buy more for the next cruise. LOL

Call reservations and order a bar setup. You can enjoy drinks in your room and still play by the rules with no chance of it being held for the cruise.

I got sent to the Naughty room last year on the Oasis. Went down the wrong elevator and was on I-95 with the crew. We walked and walked (with crew asking us where we were going) and finally found it. Lots of sinners there, including women with irons. I did NOT have booze. My "sin"? A $5.00 "Leatherman" that apparently I was going to use to take the ship apart with, one screw at a time! Didn't try to reclaim it...got a new one from DH for Christmas.

Left it home this year.

And when you go out to eat at home, you take your drinks with you or do you buy them there? As was posted, if you want booze in your room, NCL will sell it to you and even deliver it to your room. It's not about money???

great point. I have always wondered the same thing. I know, some think the drinks are too expensive, I don't know where they usually buy them, but we don't find them out of line at all. We just paid $9 for a vodka tonic at the Miami Airport Hilton last week and $10 for a glass of house wine. We always get the bar set up for hubby to have his scotch.

Well, you could just be there because you have soda, or water, or mouthwash, in your checked luggage.;)

The really do it for mouthwash? I have problematic teeth. Thus I use three different types of "mouthwash". I've taken the bottles on Celebrity and Royal Caribbean without a problem. Is NCL more strict?

Sincerely,

Shalie

PS. What are rum runners?

You are allowed mouth wash, but people have smuggled their hootch in mouthwash bottles, so it may be wrongly flagged.

FYI,there are tons of BYOB in the NY/NJ area, which we do frequent. My point as why is everyone so judgemental? Remember guys its vacation!

There certainly are but they don't have liquor licenses and depend on alcohol sales to make their profit and they don't give you free food like a ship.

Are we better off to put mouthwash in our carry-ons? I definitely don't want our first cruise to be marred by an unintentional trip to the naughty room.
