Oasis of the Seas - Photo Review

Great review so far (not to say that I expect it to decline). I was on the Oasis last year at this time and will be on Allure in the spring. I booked an inside cabin on deck 11 not far from the publc veranda. I figured since they aren't used too much it'll be my own (semi) private veranda and what with the heinous single supplement I wanted to keep the price down.

Another picture from our "private balcony"

Below is room 12222 mid ship aft

It is also an example of what the room would look like backwards. Much nicer IMO

DSC00227.jpg

My mom was in 14604. I didn't get any pictures but she said her balcony was square like 8ft by 8ft

That is mid/forward starboard on 14

We met up with our friends while exploring and headed down to Central Park for a drink at the Trellis bar.

One thing you do have to watch on this ship is the bar staff try to trick you. We had three separate occasions when this was true. The first was here. I ordered a Miami Vice but told him I didn't want it in the "Souvenir" mug. He said that is the only way I could get it. I told him, no, just put it in a regular mug. He said I couldn't do this, all the while making my drink. I said I wasn't going to pay the extra $3 or whatever it is and to stop making it. He eventually just charged me the lower price. One time at the Aqua Theater my friend ordered a glass of wine. The bar server tried to get her to order a bottle. She declined saying she wasn't going to drink that much. He assured her she could take it back to her cabin. Being a savy cruiser she questioned this. He reiterated the assurance. She said okay. When it was time to leave she went to the bar to get the bottle and they told her, she could not in fact do this. She explained the situation to them and they reluctantly let her but she felt duped. The last time was also at the Aqua Theater. During one of the shows, I ordered a coke. The server asked my friend if she too wanted a coke. She declined (as her husband had a coke card). He said "Come on. I'll buy it for you" She said, well, okay. He then brought back the bill for me to sign and both of them were on my bill. I don't mind buying her a coke but this was underhanded and not well received. Just saying, be careful!

Back to the good stuff. Central Park is wonderful! Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. Before we left FLL an owl got on board. The staff was running around trying to catch it making for entertaining viewing.

A couple of things you will notice about the elevators.

First, these little dots that are lit up on the numbers. Some people might assume that those are the buttons that have been lit up indicating where the elevator is going to stop and then they might push and push and push their floor trying to get their light to come on too. Then they might start to panic and think that the elevator is not going to stop on their floor, forcing them to climb the stairs and possibly die from too much exercise. They might start to sweat and possibly even hyperventilate from the terror. And then someone might explain that the buttons are lit up because they are points of interest (like the Boardwalk, etc) and not selected floors. The person might then think they need a nap from all the stress, calling room service first of course because keeping up your strength is important.

But, I really wouldn't know because I knew why they were there right from the beginning.

Other things that you will find in the elevators on the Oasis

Carpet that changes with the days

People who only take the elevator one floor, down! Which is not annoying at all!

And finally

No airconditioning. Seriously!

These are new on some ships

You can find where something is or what is going on around the ship at that moment. You can also look and see how busy certain eating venues are

Hey Jen! Now, I just knew that you would do a great review with all the pics and everything, so I didn't do the pics! I just did a mini-review with my thoughts/comments/opinions.:) Seeing how that we have a lot of the same pics, I didn't want to duplicate everything!

Oh btw, I need a pic of our cabin. Silly me was soooooooo excited about everything, that I completely forgot to take a pic of it!

I love that pic that we took at the hotel of the sun going down and the sky was that pink/purple color.......AAAAaaahhhhh.......makes me wish we were still in FL!:)

Oh and yes, we did get the corporate rate at the Hilton thanks to Mike's wonderful job!! I do hate that they put you guys over there. I wish I had known the layout better and I would have requested a better room for you.

It's more of a running joke than that is was so bad.....it was fine.

Sending those two pictures as we speak. I was just posting over on your thread.

Love the photos so far! I plan to do the same... have my DSLR ready to go along with my fixed lenses for all the interior shots of the ship. this will probably be the first time I take more photos of the cruise ship rather than the destinations!

Cruised Oasis in October. Glad you took pics. I did not...(long story) Thanks.

If you want a less expensive option for hotel try the Hampton Inn/ Plantation. We drove and arranged a rate (check online services) that include free parking for 7 nts, free shuttle to and from terminal, and free full breakfast buffet. Yeah, it doesn't have a harbor view, but it is right next door to the mall. DS who had recently lost weight and needed new clothes, got a new wardrobe for $120 at Target. There are so many restaurants nearby that it was difficult to choose for dinner. The staff was very pleasant, beds comfy and had free internet. All for 2Q beds ---$97. The shuttle had a trailer for luggage and was a short ride, dropping us at the porters.

Wish I had done the jewelry class, instead of cupcake. I did not get a chance to do rising tide. Beads look good.

The elevators were quite crowded. Unfortunately I was one of those who had to wait and go down one floor due to bad knees. I felt badly for those in wheelchairs and scooters. One plus escort takes up most of the floorspace. If you can do the stairs, go for it. The elevator space is at a premium or plan to travel when fewer people are out. I would suggest allowing more time than other ships to get to shows, etc. as getting on an elevator may take a few attempts at busy times.

Do not miss the shows. They were great. Skip the promenade sales, unless you like Filene's basement and/or the Running of the Brides.

In case anyone gets the wrong impression, I had a great 7 nights. The food was good (Chops was great), the service excellent and I am in withdrawl back at home.

Medical conditions don't count. Of course you should use the elevators!

Feel free to down load whatever you want.

If you need any pics email, mjcrouch@4dv.net

Bummer on you not getting pictures!

Thanks for the suggestion, but we picked this hotel because of the location and the marina...plus, Jenn and her group stayed there before and loved it. It is very modern, clean and has a great pool! Actually, with my hubby's corporate discount, we did not pay much more than $97. We do not do internet while on vacation, so that wasn't a biggie for us. Also, we waited til we boarded the ship to eat, so breakfast isn't a must for us either. We also flew into FLL, so we didn't need free parking for the week. The free shuttle would have been nice though.:)

That is a great option too. It seems like FLL has a lot of good options. We stayed at the Ramada in years past and it had trans to and from also. It too was great. Like Jenmaybe said, we had stayed here in the past (and gotten evacuated for Hurricane Jeanne so it was intriguing to us. I do agree however, that the cheaper the better when going in for one night. The hotel is not where you want to put your money.

She got us a great deal though so it all worked out wonderfully. I will definitely check out the Hampton Inn next time! Thanks for the suggestion!

I think I am out of order on my times but Jen and her husband and Mike and I explored the Boardwalk prior to going to the rooms.

The boardwalk has a bar, Johnny Rockets, The Seafood Shack, an ice cream parlor, a fun photo shop (that we didn't do but looked intriguing....you dress up in fun costumes), a clothing shop with name brand clothes, a candy store and a donut shop.

Jen, I'm so excited to see you're doing an Oasis review and pictures - we're going in a month! I loved your Radiance/Alaska review so much that it convinced DH and I to go next summer - I'm sure I'll be referring to it lots as we begin our planning for that. Looking forward to more on the Oasis - great pics and review so far! DH and I were on the inaugural of the Oasis back in '09, now we're taking almost the whole family - 9 of us. Only our littlest peanut, sweet little granddaughter, is staying behind with her favorite cousin.
