Making friends

Hi,

My boyfriend and I are going on the Norwegian Star western Carribbean out of Tampa on March 4-11. We are both kind of shy and wonder is it easy to make friends while cruising? Last time we went on a cruise it was only a 3 nighter so we didn't really have time. Any tips?? Sorry this makes us sound super lame:cool:

I think the best way is to check out the roll call for your cruise (if there is one) in the Roll Call section. You can get a chance to chat with people before you cruise and then meet on board. Good Luck!! We have met some wonderful people on board our cruises!

not super lame at all--not even kind of lame. the answer is--yes, it is CRAZY easy to make friends. first, go join the roll call for your sailing on this site (if you haven't already). that REALLY helps (because people will know you before you even leave!) and second--just go to things you are interested in. personally, i like trivia and...well...drinking. so i went to trivia almost every day and various tastings throughout the cruise (the wine tasting is great--the martini tasting was a bit too much drinking even for me!) and i met people everywhere. you should also note that i was traveling solo--which made ME look super lame. but not really.

when people are on vacation they tend to be more outgoing and friendly--i'm SURE you guys will make friends! have a great trip!

My boyfriend and I met some fantastic new friends on the Spirit this summer when we took part in the first Martini tasting session. We then joined up with them for the progressive trivia all week (which we won!!) It was a great way to meet new people and interact with no pressure. We all did our own things during the day and joined up at night for the trivia, dinner, dancing, casino,and/or Blue Lagoon at midnight! It was very easy and fun!

Enjoy yourself!

yes, lots of tips: 1-join the roll call and go to the meet and greets: 2-always ask for a table for 4 and play trivia..All are great ways to meet others.

Perhaps a screen-name change to start with might help.

We are sailing on the NCL Epic this Saturday. Our cruise critic roll call is 125 people strong. Joining the roll calls is a fantastic way to meet people. We were on the Dawn in April and met a ton of folks whom we still FB with daily. It is not a lame way at all. You can can meet people that can become life long friends and travel buddies. I hope you two have a wonderful time. I wish you were coming on our cruise... we would have been happy to meet ya's. Enjoy the games, trivia, comedy shows and the White Hot party! I am sure you will be hooked after this cruise!

Cheers!

It doesn't sound lame.

But I will go against everyone here except the "join your roll call".

My husband and I are both introverts and unfortunately have never made friends on either one of our cruises. So it will all depend on how active your roll call is. Ours was friendly and chatty but except a gift exchange and the meet and greet nothing else was arranged. If you just have a meet and greet, then probably not. If there are other things like slot pulls, bar crawls etc. That would make it easier to connect with people you have things in common with.

The people in the meet and greets are friendly but they only last about an hour and some of that is taken up by attending officers introductions. If your roll call doesn't seem to have these other things going on, it is a lot easier to make a suggestion online and maybe someone will pick up the ball and run with it. Or make a suggestion online to meet with someone you appear to connect with on the roll call to meet for drinks at sailaway.
