Oct. 23rd Legend cruise, the worst

I think it is funny how there are two different extremes on cruise boards/forums. There are those that clearly cannot be pleased and blame the world for their own horrible demeanor. Then you have those that think that a cruise line can do NO wrong. I agree most of the time (I’ve done A LOT of reading here and elsewhere) that the person complaining has no leg to stand on. However, if I were on a cruise I would expect that the Captain would do everything he/she could to ensure a great time. I can understand a storm coming up that the captain could not avoid or plan around. This storm was one that even I knew about for days before it hit and I live in Kentucky. I can understand being upset with the situation as other arrangements most likely could have been made. Going toward a storm on a vacation is NEVER something you want to do. When you are on a ship that can avoid it I can see how it would compound your disappointment. Carnival cannot control the weather but they can control their ship. All this coming from someone that LOVES Carnival and has never had a bad cruise but realistically knows it COULD happen. Oh, and +1 to Fishtaco's post!

I feel for the OP. They were probably planning for this trip for a long time, and it didn't turn out the way they expected. It's understandable to be upset. I think that after some time goes by and the feelings are less "raw", the OP will realize that the cruise wasn't so bad after all. As many have said, it's better to be on a bad cruise than to be at work--I think the OP will come to this realization in time. At least I hope...

Ha! I always say even a bad day on a cruise beats a good day at work. ;)

Not to hi-jack the thread but I've always hated that saying....when I go to work I haven't spent thousands of dollars and planned for months for a fun time on a ship. It costs me nothing to go to work so a good day is an added bonus. A cruise is expensive and for alot of people it's a "once in a lifetime" vacation....why wouldn't they expect it to be better than any day at work???

Just sayin....

whenever i read that, i think they should find a new job.

i will never understand tha comparison. i would rather be at work than on a bad vacation.

Everytime I read a post that is unhappy about the port changes it's the same thing. The crew should have communicated early, they should have gone where I wanted to go... It happens all the time.

If you are that hung up on the ports, then do NOT cruise or do any kind of group travel. It is the nature of this type of travel, things will change and the decisions will not be under your control.

Travel where you are making the decisions and only have yourself to hold accountable.

I cancelled a cruise earlier this year because I realized that I was really looking forward to acouple of ports and if they were cancelled I would have wasted my time and money. I will see them independently.

Other times I cruise for a nice vacation and go with the flow and let the Captain drive the ship.

I am not flaming but I can't believe it when people travel through hurricane season and complain when things don't go as planned. It's the cruislines fault that the weather is crappy. Oh, sorry, we are rerouting you because we don't want to put you in harms way. ANY cruiseline.

OP, maybe you should cruise in like February or May or early summer when hurricanes aren't around. Oh wait, the prices would be higher so no we will continue to sail during hurricane season and demand refunds, and credits for things that are uncontrollable.

Try another cruiseline and see if they do things any different. Sorry you had a bad time. Next time blame yourself for the booking at this time of year.

I also love posters like OP here and the one on the other thread that know all about cruise ship logistics so they are aware of what all of the other cruise ships are doing at sea during their cruise AND to have the inherent knowledge to "outCaptain" the Captain.

They CHARGE for motion-sickness tablets now?? Are you sure?? The have always been FREE!

Coming back from someplace last year or year before, seas were sooooo bad....they were coming arond and passing out dramamine free in your staterooms.....but I couldn't wait so went to the shops to get some.....$8.00 for the box....

Still...I have no sympathies for the OP. Ypur vacation is what you make of it....my partner sleeps & watches TV at least 1/2 the time we're on the ship....WHY??? because he doesn't get to when we're at home...that's his vacation.....I like to sleep up on deck....I have wondered about the cushions on serenity deck, does sound nasty......and kids....why is it that people leave them unattended? what if he had dronwed in the pool? let alone poop!

Prices are cheaper in February than during hurricane season.

I am sorry that your cruise was not all that you thought it would be. I also would like to point out that a few of your issues seem more then a little odd - while I can understand wanting a clean beach - (we live in San Diego) could it be because of the storm more was getting wash ashore then they could clean up?

bees, well its the out doors

changing ship directions? well, you wanted it changed and i am sure someone else would have posted "they changed the direction of the ship and i miss all my ports.. "

and well, weather is weather - and it is the fall...

so your cheep cruise, is cheep for a reason.. kwim?

It looks like the ship was ahead and then north of the projection of the storm. I'm not sure if it would of been logistically possible to sail a Eastern route and make it back to Tampa on time because the path of Rina was supposed to hit Southern Florida on the weekend. Did any of the ships based out of Gulf ports go to the Eastern Caribbean that week? Did the Norweigen Star out of Tampa go east?

Why do people leave the kids unattended? You try to get a seat near the pool! The chairhogs have them. When my son goes into the pool, I'm usually watching him from the balcony or the deck above.

Geez.

Bingo! This was a very unpredictable storm and the projections were sending her to east coast of Florida if she made a radical turn. The ship was always out of harms way, and in our humble opinion the captain did a good job. My husband owns a sailing charter business and he understood everything the captain was doing and why he did it. There were always activities going on unboard if u chose to participate.

why not be IN the pool with them or sitting on the rim of the pool area...what help would you be on the balcony or deck above?

I get it about the chair hogs....fortunately I have never really been affected by them....

I do think the OP has the right to Vent, this is what the boards are for. The OP's cruise was not what she expected. Yes, cruising during Hurricane season is a crap shoot but she is entitled to state the cruise was not what she expected. As for the children spitting in the hot tub I completely agree with her, It does state children in diapers are not allowed in the hot tub but this is definitely not enforced. The OP is giving HER impression of the cruise and Carnival lovers need to thicken their skin:)

I was on this cruise lost ports didn't bother me and as previously stated I felt the Captain kept us informed, however. my experience of the cruise differs from the OP but that does not mean she does not have valid points:cool:

Thank God we booked extra days on the beach, just returned home from the worst cruise we have been on. Carnival made a decision to steer her right down to where Rina was brewing. I knew the storm was there, so did Carnival. Departure on Sun, sea day on Mon.

We watched the storm progress on tv, even had a hurricane tracker in the lobby, Waited and waited to hear the announcement of re-routing and changing our ports to the Eastern. Nope..Cozumel, Belize, Roatan, Gr Cayman...We went to Belize first, sign stating the Nor. Star had canceled this port. duh. Water excursions were canceled of course, that cannot be helped when a hurricane is brewing. We found an internet cafe to let our family know we were alive and the captain made the decision to steer the Legend between the outer bands of the Cat 2 hurricane and the coast.

North to Cozumel, we must outrun the hurricane! Instead of departing at 5pm, we were to leave at 3:30 to get ahead of the storm. All water excursion canceled, the sprinkling of rain made even a beach day out, it was overcast, geeee a hurricane.. walked around about 30 min and back to ship. We heard the rumors that a lady lost her life, scooter accident, how sad. The ship did not depart until 4:30 b/c of this horrible tragedy. The Triumph got out of dodge before us.

I asked a few pax, "have you seen any other cruise lines down here?" Nope. Just Carnival. hmmmm

Of course there was no way they were taking us to Roatan/Gr Cayman, but we were to stop at Progresso. What a dump this is! We booked a beach at your lesiure through the ship due to the fact we had never been to this port. $50 @, 3 hrs of open bar, kayaks, floats, showers w/ option of AI.

The kid told us there was seaweed and not snorkeling water, we could back out. Good grief, we are beach bums, we book a cruise according to our interest and this aint it! They were raking the seaweed into piles in front of the lounge chairs, what an odor! I am guessing there were 3-4 kayaks already in use, maybe 8-9 floats, orderd a drink 3 times, finally went up to wait in line to get it. Bees all over from the sweet ingredients used for drinks and sodas.

We left early, a bus was going to leave so we begged to get on it after we used the SHOWERS. What a joke, the ones by the wading pool did not work, the guy told us to use the ones by the johns. Fine, oh, they dont work either! One had the bottom part where you rinse feet, a little trickle.

I went to guest services to tell them what I thought, a lady called our room and gave us 20% off, $20 off of $100 for a trip that should have been about $20. Thus kid at guest services said he thought the captain made a good choice in sending our ship to this area! I forgot they get paid no matter where they take us.

We departed Progresso at 5pm Thurs..at sea Fri and Sat...they slowed her down to 8-9 knots!!! I am so angry, they could have made arrangements to take this ship to the eastern before we even left port. Or I kept telling my husband they will probably stop at Key West. Nope. Sit on ths ship for 2 1/2 more days. We sat in the cabin and slept and watched tv.

This was our 9th cruise with Carnival, sailed the Glory a few yrs ago while hurricane Wilma was stirring up the gulf..We were re-routed to Nassau, SJ, and St, Thomas, its hurricane season, fully understandable. It was fine. But this was uncalled for. I understand the cruise that left the day we returned was re-routed!! We sure got the shaft!

I am glad some people had a good time, we did not. The planning, plane tickets, hotels, parking, cruise costs, my husband just finished chemo, looked forward to his cruise, this is how Carnival treats loyal customers. We looked at other lines, how I wish we would have taken one of them.

Heck, they didnt even have many bingo sessions, the last nt they offered it at 9:15. Late dining brain surgeons, think about it. We heard others talking about how bad the talent was pertaining to the shows, we only went to one comedy show, no kidding, 20 yr old jokes with a ventriloquist. Even the casino had old machines, many penny ones with buttons wore off. Had to wait for a seat at the one and only let it ride table every nt, only 1 3 card table. Never did get anything from the Players club either.

I know they have made cutbacks, lol I asked for a deck of cards in the casino, maybe we can play rummy in the cabin, they now charge a dollar. A poor lady in front of me at guest services was so sick, they charged her $3 for a few dramimine.

I usually report all good things on my reviews, sorry, we did have a few good meals in the dining room thats the extent of it. The slop on the lido buffet...it was horrible. B, L, D no kididng, we are not picky eaters at all. Many days, we had a bowl of fruit, sweetest grapes we had ever eaten.

The deli was fine, thank God! One day some folks were digging into an area of one of the buffet chow. Hotdogs, fries and little corn on the cobs, hey Ill try it. A gal said oh you cant eat off this buffet its reserved for camp carnival. Put up a sign kiddo, there r people eating it. I said why am I not surprised? I told my husband, look around, I dont think there is anyone over 25 yrs old besides the captain working on this ship. Any of them for that matter.

The serenity deck is nice, after we watched a kid spitting in the midship pool and snot hanging out of his nose and going into the pool, I amnot kidding, it was gross. Everyone got out of the pool except him and the 3 little girls he was with. No parent around.

Hot tub, pool,m back and forth, not one other person in either one. We went back to serenity to try a shot at an open lounger. I get really mad at the pax that leave their junk on a chair, if it is there for awhile, it goes on the deck. We watched as they would leave for hrs at a time and return only to gather there junk to go leave.

Just dont want anyone else to have the chair. Greedy. Of course the kids slide is right behind the serenity, it is very nice back there, but you do hear kids screaming.

Not as bad as the other 2 pools though. Just have to sit on wet chairs, kinda nasty as they have cushions that cannot be flipped over. and pillows that other peeps have been sleeping and slobbering on all day, day after day. EEWWW.

We were so glad to get off that ship, 4 days at Indain Rocks Beach was heaven! My letter to Carnival goes out tomorrow. All they would have had to do was find a few ports, like Half Moon which they own! Drop the damn anchor for a few days!!

Really a horrible cruise in our opinion, we know all about hurricane season, not the issue at all, its the fact that this low class cruise line did not change the route b4 we left. We have dealt with boring ships several times, but the ports make up for all that. Shame on you Carnival, glad the cruise behind us got to go to the eastern, maybe they are having the time of their lives.

Cindy

Hay lady what the hell did you think it is hurricane season I am sorry Carnival made the weather so bad just for you yes some times it sucks but you know what better them being at work. Let me say I love the Legend was on her 3 time's this year and love'd every min of it. I would go today if I could. And for me I would not care if we had miss'ed all ports I cruise for the cruise not for some port's that is how I am. I would not let your story get to if it was me. I would be happy to be on a cruise. let me say in May we left on the 22 nd the best weather ever. I am sorry to say for what you said I think you just don't like kid's do you sounds to me that cruiseing is not for you. You need to stay on land or try this I want you to think about this. Try to book the Legend for May of next year and try it then if you don't like the ship then you don't have to cruise any more I will be on the Legend next may sailing on May 20 2012 and plan on having a very good time and I really hope you do. Thank you

I was on this same cruise also. But after reading OP's comments, maybe I was on a different one.

I NEVER saw any "sea sickness bags" anywhere on or around the ship. Never saw anyone get sick! We even commented that we hardly felt the ship rocking at all. At times it felt as though you were walking up a hill, then down. But seriously that was it!!

We were on the Inspiration in December when the Port of Tampa was closed and we couldn't get back in. It was way worse than this cruise!!! 200 times worse!!!!

I do get sea sick, so I had my Bonine and take one every night before dinner. I didn't have any issues.

We were disappointed about missing ports but what can you do??? We were well aware it was Hurricane season. Just another reason to book another cruise. And we will NOT Hesitate to book with Carnival!!

The puke bags were in the heads, along with puke, espically in the head by the casino. The bags were on the tables in the lobby area as well. Tues nt was the worst, glad you didnt feel the rolling of the ship. WE dont get seasick either, but there were alot that did! We are up late, after 9pm i really got rough, through the night.

Not a big deal for us, we have cruised in hurricane season several times, yes we knew it was the season. The storm was actually predicted to travel west over the Yucatan when we left port on Sun. By Mon, things were changing, Tues...but it was alot of fun sitting on a ship for 2 1/2 days, yes 2 1/2 days from Progresso-Tampa.

One man at our poker table said he was on his balcony with his GPS about 10:30, we were 85 miles off the shore of tampa..Screw the 7 day, many of us just wanted to get back to shore, alot of pax had to fly home on Sun and just wanted some beach time.

We had to sail right now, posted earlier, had to, we love May, our favorite time, but husbands oncologist said he was doing well and did not have to come back for 6 weeks. Some of us cannot just go when we wish.

Oh, do I like kids? What a stupid thing to say. No, I dont like them spitting in the pools, and no I dont like them without adults to supervise them. Bty, we have 4 grandchildren, and geeee I do "like" them.

I am thinking alot of posters are very young, the choice of words some are using I can compare to our grandchildren.

Glad some of you had a good time, we think it sucked, remember, the crew get paid no matter where they take us, even if nowhere at all. There were sgins posted at Belize that the Star and another ship were canceling the port, duh. The Triumph was there, but it was traveling north to Galveston, a 5 nt maybe?

I will not call names, a bit to old for that, I posted what we we thought of this cruise, isnt that what cc is for? Why would anyone have a tantrum, grow up. I think some of you just like to read your name, maybe its time to do your homework for school tomorrow kiddos.

No more posts, this cruise sucked, should have been taken to other ports. The end.

Just so you know we live in South Florida and the Weather was changing by the Hour here regarding that storm so Im sorry but the fact you think this is carnival's fault if quiet funny...and the fact that they would actually take you into a hurricane is just Insane...and if you think that this doesn't happen on any cruises or cruise lines your very well mistaken...
