CSBM Posted November 5, 2011 #1 Share Posted November 5, 2011 We are finally taking our first cruise after years of being a lurker here. We are going either on the Oasis on june 30 or Allure on july 1st. We are a family of 4 and our two kids are ages 14 and 12. We are celebrating our 20th anniversary and our oldest is about to start high school. We decided to celebrate BIG and go on our first cruise. Our family is on the tall side (12-5'7 and 14-5'8) so we decide two rooms might be best. On the Allure sailing we can get two rooms (one interior and one balcony across hall) 14327 and 14326 On the Oasis we can get two rooms (one interior and one balconey acroos hall) 7677 and 7676 Which would you choose? I was concered about the deck 14 and noise above, but the agent said that is was under the putt putt. I didn't think that would be too noisy:) please help us choose the best rooms:) CSBM
DonnaK Posted November 5, 2011 #2 Share Posted November 5, 2011 You really can't go wrong with either combination. We prefer to be lower to the water, so we would choose deck 7. It's closer to the Promenade, Central Park and Boardwalk, which is important to us. Many people prefer to be higher up, closer to the sports deck, pools and windjmmer buffet. We aren't in prime physical condition, so we found that the huge amount of walking we did on the Allure was exhausting. To minimize this, I'd select a cabin closer to the elevator (preferably the rear elevator lobby), for more efficiency in getting around the ship. As far as Allure versus Oasis, the differences are really nitpicky. One of them is doing Eastern and the other is doing Western - do you have a preference? (Look on the ports of call forum for each place to see what you'd do there). Also, one leaves on Saturday and the other on Sunday - do you have a preference? (check airfare for both - one may have a significant savings over the other). Oasis has Hairspray versus Allure which as Chicago.
Cigar King Posted November 5, 2011 #3 Share Posted November 5, 2011 I don't think I have ever been disturbed by what is above me. They must do a pretty decent job on the sound proofing. I'd go high, just because I like the view. OTOH, you may feel more of the ship rolling, if sea sickness is an issue.
Beth C Posted November 5, 2011 #4 Share Posted November 5, 2011 I would go with the Allure rooms over the Oasis. The location on the Oasis is better *deck 7* for all reasons mentioned EXCEPT the fact that it's right below the corner of Dazzles... the inside room may be the recipient of some late night bass thumping. This inside (Cat Q - orange on deck plans) is also smaller than the other inside. The Allure rooms under the Dunes will be much more quiet @ night - that end of the ship is pretty much deserted after the Flowrider shuts down etc . This inside is considered a "Larger Interior" which will give more room. Since prices are comparable - What ports excite you more?
cb at sea Posted November 5, 2011 #5 Share Posted November 5, 2011 I like the higher decks...it's so much easier to access the daytime activities via the stairs when you're within a flight or two....more than that, and you'll spend time on elevators... Ally9802 Posted November 5, 2011 #6 Share Posted November 5, 2011 I would go higher too, IMHO :)
booksbythepool Posted November 5, 2011 #7 Share Posted November 5, 2011 I will actually be in 14326 on the Oasis in January. I plan to spend a lot of time during the day on the pool deck so being able to just go up a flight of stairs is great for me. I've heard people complain about being on 14 if their cabin is directly under the pools because of early morning noise from the deck chairs being set up. But it should be very quiet in the back. Having a larger interior for your kids sounds great.
jackretired Posted November 5, 2011 #8 Share Posted November 5, 2011 Cabin Selection To avoid the motion of the ocean, be in the center of the ship. Top to bottom. Front to back. Side to side in really bad seas. Stabilizers do a good job but sometimes … To avoid noise What is around you What is over you What is under you Look at the deck plans To avoid long walks Where are the elevators To avoid elevators Do you want to be close to MDR, windjammer, pool deck, casino, schooner lounge? To avoid $ Inside To get a view Balcony .
