Latest date for GTY cabin assignment?

In the days before internet and instant information you could make the case but I just can't see why a sold out cruise is taking two weeks to assign a cabin.

The ship may be oversold and they are waiting for an appropriate cancellation in order to make your assignment.

If there are not enough cancellations, they will make "move over" offers to some passengers, essentially a bribe to switch to a later sailing.

If not enough takers on the "move over" offers, they will increase the value of the offer until enough people do accept it.

Then, there will be a cabin to assign to you.

Since "move over" offers cost Princess $$$, they will wait until the last moment to make them knowing statistically that there will be a few last minute cancellations, hopefully enough to avoid making any of these offers.
