Then,,had gone on a Miss.steamboat cruise,,yrs.ago,,,and was pretty bad,,,small cabin, poor food,,sewer smell in bathroom,,,even asked for refund and given FREE cruise,,but didnt take,,, KNow they ve changed management,,,that MAY help..but do check out ..:(
Talisker92 Posted December 7, 2011 #3 Share Posted December 7, 2011 We cruised on the Colombia Queen. The scenery and excursions were great, but the food absolutely sucked! As an example, they had a lunch buffet one day, and there was one roast and one ham for over 100 people! We did post a story about it on our blog. Rare LHT28 Posted December 7, 2011 #5 Share Posted December 7, 2011 There are 2 steamboats coming back American Queen under GASC http://www.greatamericansteamboatcompany.com/ Queen of the Mississippi under ACL http://americancruiselines.com/ships.php?ship_id=34 Both ships are getting a big overhaul and facelift so may or may not be the same quality as before Looking forward to trying the American Queen in the future
Rare steamboats Posted December 7, 2011 #6 Share Posted December 7, 2011 PennyAgain, American Cruise Lines has the Queen of the West (paddlewheel boat) on the Columbia river. I haven´t been on that ship but it has undergone a major renovation last year. The scenery is great on the Columbia river. The other company mentioned (Great American Steamboat Company) is running the American Queen (former Majestic America Line, former Delta Queen Steamboat Company) on the Mississippi and Ohio rivers. American Cruise Lines is currently building the Queen of the Mississippi for similar itineraries. steamboats

We are seriously looking at it for the experience of being on the river and seeing the scenery. American Cruise Lines has this boat. Have ordered a brochure. The Smithsonian has a cruise on this boat in June.

jsb9701 Posted December 20, 2011 #9 Share Posted December 20, 2011 Lindblad Expeditions currently runs a Columbia River trip that you may want to investigate. We traveled with them on a Copper Canyon and Sea of Cortez journey on the Sea Bird some years ago and enjoyed the trip very much. Their leaders are naturalists and quite interesting. More recently we have taken two trips with American Cruise Lines; Maine Coast and Harbors and New England Islands. They, too, did an excellent job with good food and nicely chosen sites. The staff on the American Cruise Lines trips we took were young college age students with varying experience and skill. http://www.expeditions.com/Search62.asp?destination=297&date=&ship= Jean
PennyAgain Posted December 22, 2011 Author #10 Share Posted December 22, 2011 Jean, thanks so much for the information. We went ahead and booked with American Cruise Lines for the Columbia/Snake River trip. We are just flat worn out and need an easy and pleasant vacation.
