Alaska Cruise in Middle of May

Twice-a-year

Recommended Posts

Hi

How to expect the weather in Alaska Cruise during middle of May? So worry that I will hit with rain. Thanks

Chances are you will hit rain.... any time of the year. If you don't you would just be lucky. You might be lucky any time so it all works out.

Did one towards the end of May. Not much rain that time of year, lots and lots of day light. The only negative in our opinion was most all the waterfalls of which there are thousands were still frozen. We prefer early to mid August for price but have had snow and rain then.

However, would do Alaska any time and this next year we are doing it in September.

Cruised out of Vancouver for 7 day return, and had 3 minutes of rain in Ketchikan.... the rest of the time it was sunny and shirt sleeve weather.... this was the week of May 13th this year.....

Have done two cruises in Sept and had a lot of rain..... so enjoy your May cruise...but ...be prepared just in case....:)

"On average, Alaska's summers are slightly rainier than the rest of the U.S. But May is dry, with only a 25% chance of measurable rain on any given day. Alaska gets rainier as the summer progresses. By August, the chance of rain is just over 50%."

That quote was from a tourist website, alaska dot org, for what it's worth. We booked in May because that is when we could go (time off from work wise) and when we could afford to go (could have taken time in August - but too expensive for us). We understand Alaska weather is unpredictable (we live in Florida - we get a lot of rain here, too! - Sunshine state?!), so we will bring clothing for any weather, but keep our fingers crossed for "statistical" weather. :)

We've taken two cruises to Alaska, both in May. Good weather (for the most part) both times, except that it seems to always rain in Ketchikan.

From what I understand, one would likely see a bit more wildlife if you include a land portion of the trip. But, we did one in May, and saw quite a bit of wildlife in Denali.
