halos Posted December 12, 2011 #26 Share Posted December 12, 2011 Edit: I should also add that NCL pretty much always has a OBC bonus for booking a suite far in advance. We got $300 OBC for that cruise for booking early. Plus the suite perks are amazing on NCL. All in all it was a great deal that I would not hesitate to do again. The downside is that it would be hard for me to book anything BUT a suite on NCL. That's what I am afraid of. We too booked our Bermuda cruise suite over 9 months in advance and got that $300 OBC. On top of that, NCL gave us (this was prior to the recent latitudes changes) an additional $150 OBC because we had moved up a tier (from bronze to silver) On top of that, we got some OBC from the TA we dealt with and have a total of $700 OBC  It is going to be so nice to come home and not have total sticker shock for a change :)

I crave their fries and Tuna Burger, not to mention the jumbo shrimp cocktail.....yum...Wade and I will cruise them again for the suite privilages alone. We had $1,200 OBC on our Magic cruise. We even got a check back for $260 at the end. It was awesome to head to Europe and not have to even consider the sail and sign bill when putting money away for the trip. Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted December 13, 2011 Author #28 Share Posted December 13, 2011 So booking a 21 day cruise 9 months ahead, in a suite, on a Latitudes special would make you Platinum? 19 days would do the trick! :) Tom

Kruisenut Posted December 13, 2011 #31 Share Posted December 13, 2011 Got to love the suite life on NCL. Tom thanks to your wonderful posts on the owners suite we are giving it a try this weekend on the Inspiration welcome to California cruise. We have enjoyed trying suites on different lines and your posts are spot on and enjoyable to follow.

halos Posted December 13, 2011 #34 Share Posted December 13, 2011 We had $1,200 OBC on our Magic cruise. . That is AWESOME!! Care to share how you got that much?? I don't recall ever getting much if any OBC from CCL. I think the only OBC I have ever had was from a group perk and using the FCC.

The downside is that it would be hard for me to book anything BUT a suite on NCL. Totally agree with David. I too was on that cruise and have booked another suite on an 11 day in March. That pushes me up to the gold level on only two cruises. The suite life is really the sweet life on NCL. It worth the extra.
kicia Posted December 13, 2011 #36 Share Posted December 13, 2011 That is AWESOME!!Care to share how you got that much?? I don't recall ever getting much if any OBC from CCL. I think the only OBC I have ever had was from a group perk and using the FCC. We got $1300 in OBC on our Magic cruise in May. The price for the ocean suite dropped $650 per person less than what we paid for our aft wrap so we gave that up for the OBC and the upgrade. We've had the aft wraps before and $1300 was just too much to pass up. This was booked early saver and then we had shareholder credit, FCC credit and our 25% Milesltone credit on top of that. We had lots of OBC and got a nice check when we debarked.

pe4all Posted December 13, 2011 #38 Share Posted December 13, 2011 We had over $1700 on our Dream cruise due to us booking around 14 months out, and many price drops for our 2 cabins. I am hoping the same thing happens for our Dec. 2012 Breeze cruise - that would be sweet!
scchasgal Posted December 13, 2011 #39 Share Posted December 13, 2011 We love the NCL Lat Rewards program now. DH jumped from bronze to gold due to all but one being in a full suite. I went from silver to gold but only have 5 points left to get to platinum. Carnival needs to adopt something.
Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted December 13, 2011 Author #40 Share Posted December 13, 2011 ...Carnival needs to adopt something. Yes, it's time to WALK THE WALK !!! (still) I really hope that something comprehensive is rolled out prior to mid-year. Since they have hinted at a time frame (at least) this time, hopefully we won't be left wondering... again! happy cruzin Posted December 14, 2011 #41 Share Posted December 14, 2011 Ok, let me see if I have this straight.....because it sorta seems "too good to be true" We will be sailing on our FIRST cruise with NCL, in February. We booked a 7 night cruise, 9+ months out and a suite - a total of 21 points according to this "new system". So - does that really mean that we will be at the "Silver" level with NCL after just ONE cruise ??

Tom Yep!! Hard to believe - but I think I can adjust ;) The Magic was great! Weather in the ports was fantastic - we swam with the manatees in Cozumel which was AWESOME!! The last 2 sea days the weather was not the greatest - it got colder and crappier the closer we got to Galveston. The last day is was too cold and windy to sit outside - even in jeans and a sweatshirt . The Magic didn't feel as cramped to us as the Dream did. That port side aft wrap on 6 is nice, the balcony is not as deep as other aft wraps we've had - but certainly more than sufficient. It had 2 loungers, 3 chairs and 2 small tables and still plenty of space. We really like the decor of the Magic - the casino theme is awesome! Hugh did well - it made up for the "donation" in Vegas! We missed the ship being decorated for the holidays - they were putting the stuff up as we got off - so that was a little disappointing. But it was still a great trip.

Ezralite12 Posted December 14, 2011 #46 Share Posted December 14, 2011 Sorry if I missed a previous mention of this, but does anyone know if NCL grandfathered anyone into a previously-earned status? Say you've taken six 3-night Bahamas cruises on NCL (no bonus points earned from things such as 9+ months, suite, etc.) and had already cruised once (cruise #6) at the silver level. Now, with less than 20 points, you'd be reclassed as bronze if you weren't grandfathered into silver status. I ask because because I will be sailing on my 10th Carnival cruise in January, and should Carnival adopt a similar program next year I'm speculating that they're likely to adhere to a similar policy with respect to grandfathering. I believe RCCL did grandfather their members when they switched formats sometime within the last couple of years.
Ezralite12 Posted December 14, 2011 #47 Share Posted December 14, 2011 Please ignore the above post. I've been researching and have since noticed John Heald being quoted as saying existing tiered passengers will be grandfathered into the new program. glrounds Posted December 14, 2011 #48 Share Posted December 14, 2011 I wonder what made them choose 9 months. I wonder what % of their cruisers book that far out (or more)? Our first one with them was only perhaps 3 months out, and our next one close to 9. Hey, now I need to go and check! :) Tom Carnival must really consider me scum . . . I book 3-5 DAYS before a cruise usually. :D
