What's your ideal day on Solstice?

Looking forward to our upcoming cruise on Solstice next month and would love to hear from previous cruisers what experiences they remember fondly, and would make up their "ideal day" on the ship.

I like to do a lot of reading and listening to my IPOD. I enjoy spending the day at the Solarium relaxing, hopping in the pool occasionally and eating when I feel like it. If there is something interesting going on on the ship I may attend but just prefer to relax at the Solarium. I avoid the outside since I am a Melanoma patient...

We have done more port-intense cruise in Europe. That makes these sea days very vital for "resting up" and relaxing. Below are some of my visuals that will give you a good sampling from what we enjoyed on the Solstice. Very classy and well-designed ship.

Walking around, hanging out near the pool, being in the lovely Solarium, listening to speakers, writing up my live/blog posting, reviewing through pictures taken, etc., were among my many joys from our Solstice cruise sea days last June. More details on the Solstice, food options, etc., from my live/blog noted below.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Back from a June 7-19 Solstice cruise from Barcelona that had stops in Villefranche, ports near Pisa and Rome, Naples, Kotor, Venice and Dubrovnik. Enjoyed great weather and a wonderful trip. Dozens of wonderful visuals with key highlights, tips, comments, etc., on these postings. We are now at 54,182 views for this live/blog re-cap on our first sailing with Celebrity and much on wonderful Barcelona. Check these postings and added info at:

For details and visuals, etc., from our July 1-16, 2010, Norway Coast/Fjords/Arctic Circle cruise experience from Copenhagen on the Silver Cloud, check out this posting. This posting is now at 55,835 views.

On the top, back of the Solstice, here is a wider view of Corning Hot Glass show area, plus the green grass and the unique covering designs for this special area of the ship.:

The Solarium was one of our favorite areas on the Solstice. Food and drinks were nearby and it was very relaxed and sophisticated. Quieter, too, as it is an adults-only area. Two hot tubs here. Not crowded, especially in the evenings. Nice art and design are there as a part of this sparkling ship facility.:

I liked to ride one of the eight glass elevators in the mid-ship courtyard with nice views out to the different floors, enjoying the ship architecture, people being active, etc. You can see the relaxing library in this shot. Classy design on this ship! Some tradition, but not too dated or old.:

Here was our Smithsonian Journeys Speaker: Dr. Krzysztof (Kris) Stanek with a Ph.D in astrophysics from Princeton, teaching at Harvard, etc. Now a nationally-ranked professor at Ohio State University:

This is a view of the main pool area.* Love the sun and activities here.:

On days at sea, I like to get up early, have a pastry and cappuccino at Cafe al Bacio, then head up to the pool. Then, laying out and reading until lunch time (laughing at the view of all the chair hogs reserving their spots half asleep at 8am). I will usually then do a seated lunch at the MDR with a glass of wine. A quick nap in the room followed by listening to whatever music is available on the ship at that time will take me to happy hour and then the martini drinking starts :)

This is from the point of view of an AquaClass, Capt Club Elite member. A typical sea day:

Throw on clothing, head up to BLU for an elegant, served breakfast

Stop at Ensemble Lounge to meed friends for Trivia

Head to Elite Lounge for Capuccino

Attend an Enrichment Lecture, Demonstration, Hot Glass Show, or if none are of interest, head to Persian Gardens

Change into swim wear, and head to Solarium (Indoor Pool) area. Lunch at AquaSpa Cafe or Mast Grill. Relax, swim, hot tub, read, gaze at ocean.

Change dress for Dinner

Elite Lounge Happy Hour (comp Drinks and Hors d"oeuvres)

Show and Casino, either before or after meeting friends for Dinner at BLU

Late night entertainment somewhere

Amazing how we can do this for 6 days in a row (TransAtlantic) and still enjoy it

We just did the Dec 11 "Noro" cruise on the Solstice. It was our first time on an "S" class. Next tim e we won't be to anxious for an aft cabin. There are no aft stairs or elevators and it was a long walk to go anywhere. Ship was more modern looking than the "un-Solsticized" M class ships we are used to. Buffet stations were new to us, M class buffets were in a straight line. Food up to Celebrity's normal fare, although due to "Noro" we were served eveything in the buffet, including coffe, tea, water and juices. Overall layout of the ship was good, shops and Casino had more of an open feel. Lounge chair availabilty good, thanks to the Pool Butlers keeping tabs on the "un-used" saved chairs. We started using Select Dining a few cruises ago and had all good experiences in the MDR with waitstaff and table mates. We like the S class so much that we already booked the Eclipse for November 2012 for a 14 nighter out of Ft Lauderdale.

My favorite sea day on the S class is:

1/2 to 3/4 exercise on the balcony after awakening

preliminary breakfast at Michael's Club, consisting of lox and bagel, sans bagel and cream cheese, bloody mary, stick of fruit

breakfast in Blu of two poached eggs with salsa, asparagus, potatoes, mushrooms, and bacon, fresh squeezed orange juice, decafe coffee, skim milk and bluebery crouisant. Pancakes in lieu of eggs on alternate days.

return to cabin and don bathing suit etc., and then to Persian Gardens for 15 minutes in the steam room, and about 1 1/2 hours of pool walking, together with ancillary exercises in the Solarium.

Lunch at the Aqua Spa Cafe, consisting of very healthy items.

Thereafter, some significant reading on the balcony before dinner in Blu.

Obviously, port days are different, but initial balcony exercise, Michael's Club and Blu, in the morning remain the same.

Though I have not been on the Solstice..I have been on her siblings, Equinox and Eclipse. The experience I remember most fondly was.."walking onboard" and each day after was "ideal"

Happy Cruising !
