Brudette Posted January 5, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 5, 2012 Okay, I can't be the only person who does this, so give me a shout out if you're a compulsive, crazy, obsessive planner. Our cruise is in April, and I'm on these boards daily, think about the cruise all the time, and am constantly planning and making lists. I just can't stop. It drives my laid-back husband NUTS! Who else is nuts with me? :)
Host Faith Posted January 5, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 5, 2012 Welome to CC! :) Same here! My husband is really laid back too, and I'm Type-A, all the way. I try to discuss cruising as much as I can on these boards- keeps me from driving my family and friends nuts with all my cruise talk, lol!
Yvonne Posted January 5, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 5, 2012 I'm a big researcher and planner too, but my husband actually likes it. He knows he doesn't have to do a thing but drive us to the airport. :)
cruzkitty Posted January 5, 2012 #4 Share Posted January 5, 2012 I am also a big planner! But what I like best is getting to know some fellow cruisers on the Roll-Call so you will kinda already know each other on board.
spunkie4 Posted January 5, 2012 #5 Share Posted January 5, 2012 35 cruises ago, my husband thought I planned too much. Now, it's interesting to hear him make a comment about something "I" found on CC, as well as the satisfaction I receive when he asks me to "check the boards" for information. Welcome to CC and enjoy your cruise. We will also cruise in April, the Island Princess. Shirley
Dizzneefan Posted January 5, 2012 #6 Share Posted January 5, 2012 As you might be able to tell from my signature, we are big Disney fans and I plan those trips with a lot of detail. On cruises, not so much since the ports, shows, etc. are already planned and scheduled. But I certainly understand the fun of planning. My wife and fellow travelers understand and appreciate the planning part of trips!
pe4all Posted January 5, 2012 #7 Share Posted January 5, 2012 My husband loves the fact that I plan and book the precruise hotel arrangements, flights, cruise itself, excursions, drink coupons, etc. He even has to ask me what ship/itinerary we are on, cause when people ask him, he doesn't know the answer!:p
edmusic Posted January 5, 2012 #8 Share Posted January 5, 2012 I'm the obsessed one and my wife could care less.
pjinaz Posted January 5, 2012 #9 Share Posted January 5, 2012 Yep, me too. I love to plan though so it works for me. My husband isn't really a planner and sometimes I drive him nuts, but I think he knows its best in the long run. I have tried a couple times to not plan ahead too much and see if I had a better time. I can tell you planning is the way to go, way better vacations with more planning. BUT you must be willing to make changes and go with the flow once on vacation. Martini Mom Posted January 5, 2012 #10 Share Posted January 5, 2012 Dh used to make fun of me, but now he asks, "Where's the cruise binder?" He also brags about all of the info I have to friends and family. He doesn't want to look for it himself, but he's super glad I have it. :D
hbmom2 Posted January 5, 2012 #11 Share Posted January 5, 2012 Trust me, you're not the only one! I can't go a day without thinking about the cruise. I have been listening to vacation music all week! Lol, DH thinks I'm crazy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Soonerbaby Posted January 5, 2012 #12 Share Posted January 5, 2012 Right there with ya! I was just telling a co-worker today, that I only have a couple of things left to do for our cruise in March and I don't know how to fill the time until then. :D My family used to make fun of me, but now they appreciate that they don't really have to do anything for vacation, not to menion that I usually save us lots of money. :)
cruiseonthebrain Posted January 5, 2012 #13 Share Posted January 5, 2012 I am so glad I am not the only only! I love "cruise seasons". For me it is three months of picking out the cruise and excursions, three months of doing even more research and changing my mind on room categories and activities, three months of thinking of what to pack, (then the actual cruise) and then three months of thinking about all the fun we had on the cruise. Then it all starts over. Maybe one day we will be in a position where those seasons can shrink due to even more cruises :-)
LKYGSR Posted January 5, 2012 #14 Share Posted January 5, 2012 Sorry for my delayed response, I had to take 5 minutes to plan what I would say. :p Yep, right there with ya, been planning for the last 300 days!
flounder315 Posted January 5, 2012 #15 Share Posted January 5, 2012 Yes, I'm on CC every day, reading, reading & reading. But I also take notes and add it to my running cruise info paper. It is very long and detailed. It starts with a to do list 2 weeks out, (call Bon Voyage) then a packing list and then goes into things about the ship, cabin, casino and ports. I start a new paper for each different ship. I print out copies for whoever I'm cruising with, so they can read all the interesting tips I picked up from fellow CC reviewers. Yes, I'm definetly obsessed...:p
edmusic Posted January 5, 2012 #16 Share Posted January 5, 2012 I find that being obsessed with planning prevents any surprises on board. When I obsessively planned our Caribbean cruise last year, I knew every nook and cranny of the ship and felt comfortable and at ease from minute one. I even download and print out the entire deck plan of the ship and take it to Staples to put in a binder for me. Much more useful than the little fold up deck plans the ship provides at embarkation. Also, I knew every port and excursion long before we arrived plus was able to pick quality excursions due to the research done beforehand. If you wait until you board and then go down to the ship's excursion desk, you're like a sheep being led to slaughter. Might as well just hand over your credit card and say 'do as you wish'. One great resource for determining excursions are the vacation videos travelers post on YouTube. You get a much more 'real-life' visual of the activity compared to what the excursion company posts on their website. Also great for checking out specific cabins of the various ships. luvtrips Posted January 5, 2012 #17 Share Posted January 5, 2012 I have a cruise binder, too!!! Part of the fun is the planning and anticipation.
Martini Mom Posted January 5, 2012 #18 Share Posted January 5, 2012 I heard the 80's song "Red red wine" on the radio this morning and cranked it up. A cruise song! :D
kyrisong1 Posted January 5, 2012 #19 Share Posted January 5, 2012 I'm also the obsessive planner in our family. My husband used to roll his eyes at me, but I've found such good cruises and excursions he's all about my OCD planning for our cruises now!!! Planning and having information before you go is a good thing right? Enjoy!! Carole
dulcimergirl Posted January 5, 2012 #20 Share Posted January 5, 2012 I want my next fix constantly. I frequent places like CC to get help. Alas, there's a bunch of Cruiseaholic's here too. I have so much cruising on the brain, I know my head is full of saltwater. It must be. I do lists, adding and subtracting stuff like: duct tape, air freshener, bikini, stepladder, wait, I don't need one of those. Oh woe the person who catches this ailment. I'm in it neck deep.. but I have my life perserver on!!! DG
cruise_pirate Posted January 5, 2012 #21 Share Posted January 5, 2012 I am planning obsessed too!:) (well I keep a close eye on all my reservations) But to me it pays off! Take our next cruise for example: I have gotten 2 price drops Was able to drop our previous airline due to changes in the itinerary and rebook with another airline at a $200.00 pp cheaper rate!!! And JUST (and I mean just logged off the website) found lower hotel rates at both the hotels we are staying at before the cruise! Ok maybe I am not planning obsessed, but rather cheap..:p
LKYGSR Posted January 5, 2012 #22 Share Posted January 5, 2012 I heard the 80's song "Red red wine" on the radio this morning and cranked it up. A cruise song! :D I heard one of our cruise songs on radio yesterday! Its called Sweat by Inner Circle, same era as Red Red wine! Nice Regae beat! A La La La La Long A La La La La Long Long Li Long Long Long. :D
soozenw Posted January 5, 2012 #23 Share Posted January 5, 2012 I'm completely obsessed as well. Of course, it doesn't help that pretty much everyone I talk to online (mostly on Twitter) is in the cruise industry. But I have gotten some great info from them! Love these boards as well. Helped us find our awesome cabin for our cruise this spring!
KRW71 Posted January 5, 2012 #24 Share Posted January 5, 2012 Yes I am planning nuts. It seems that no one else in our large party plans at all. They call me with questions, I will research it for them if I don't already know the answer or have it in my special "cruise folder". My cruise folder has printouts confirming cabins, tours, payments, etc. I made a master list of everyone's cabin #s (9 cabins), ship vs. island time charts, etc. I love the planning it gets me all excited about our trip. tracyd1014 Posted January 5, 2012 #25 Share Posted January 5, 2012 I am obsessed with planning, reading, anything devoted to our next cruise. Love reading the boards. My DH jokes about me being the "Travel Agent" of our family and friends. He doesn't hesitate to add in his two cents worth about "stuff" Tracy has read on CC when we are traveling. Maybe we need to start a club called "Obsessive Cruise Planners!"
