Waht happens with insurance when DH fell day before cruise?

We had a b2b Christmas Cruise and my DH fell and was injured, in pain and could not walk. We have cruised over the holidays in the past with the same cruise line.

We were already in Ft Lauderdale and went to an urgent care facility. However, his condition did not improve and he could not even walk without extreme pain so the day before the cruise we had to cancel the cruise. We had the protection coverage with the cruise line included with the cost of the cruise. We returned home and he was seen by an orthopeidic specialist and had the required tests. The doctor is completing the forms to submit to the insurance company.

Have any of you had any experience with submitting the required forms to the insurance company and getting reimbursed? This was an expensive cruise and along with the huge disappointment we are very concerned about getting reimbursed.

We would appreciate hearing from anybody who had to deal with a similar situation and how it turned out. Thanks very much!

Who is the insurer? Finding out how other insurers handle their claims isn't much help to you.

This should be a pretty straightforward claim of exactly the sort you purchase insurance for; you shouldn't have any trouble getting the claim paid, as long as you don't get bit by a per-existing condition exclusion for whatever reason. (Say, balance, bone, or low blood-pressure problems just before you bought the insurance...)

I am not sure how any one else's experience is relevant to yours, but I've cancelled two vacations due to one of the traveler's illness/injury, and it was pretty straighforward getting reimbursed from Travelguard.

You just need to complete your forms and the doctor needs to complete his/her's correctly and the claim needs to be processed. If it's for a covered reason, it will be paid.

I will note I once helped my MIL with a medical claim for insurance she purchased through Princess and it was a nightmare. Took over a year to settle that claim. Everyone was fighting over who had the primary responsibility for payment (Princess and her regular medical).

Thanks for your responses. We had travel protection with Princess. My DH tripped over a suitcase and that is how he was injured. Been to an orthopedic twice since returning home plus had xrays and tests done and the injury involves a disc in his back and pinched nerve. Gave the doctor the forms to complete yesterday.

Always purchased Princess trip insurance -- this cruise fare was over $8,000 --- so I'm really concerned that the cancellation will be covered by the insurance.

Who should be filling out the forms? Your local doctor or the doctor who saw your DH in Fort Lauderdale? I'm thinking you need proof that your DH could not travel therefore the documentation needs to be from before the cruise.

Also which level of Princess insurance did you have? One provides cancel for any reason I think....

Let us know how this claim turns out and if you had the cancel for any reason coverage through Princess.

For the insurance plans I've purchased (which were not Princess), a doctor must state that the person CANNOT continue the trip because of the injury/illness. You didn't state if the doctor he saw said he couldn't go on the cruises or if you made the decision on your own.

Good luck!
