Private car vs. taxi

It's pretty difficult to answer your question without knowing where you will be!

However, we have in the past used the executive van option through O, but this was more than 6 years ago. Since then the rates have really skyrocketed. I will say that the few vans we used (with guide) were excellent, but we were a group of 8. I can't think of any place where using the private car option would be less expensive than a taxi. It might well have a much better guide!

You did not state where...

But, the simple answer is NO!

Taxis are much, much cheaper.:)

True enough. I tend to ignore that part of a post, I guess I shouldn't!

Even so, we arranged a number of reasonably priced tours on our Auckland-Sydney cruise four years ago. We never considered either the private car through Oceania or a taxi.

But I have noticed that getting the cars or vans through Oceania can vary from port to port ... except that as we all agree, it's fiendishly expensive, especially if you are only two people.

Has the OP checked the excursions at the webpage? The prices should be available there.

My husband and I were in NZ on Oceania's Auckland to Sydney cruise 4 years ago and planned all our our excusions after some research via the internet, all with with delightful results. In Tauranga we rented a car, it was delivered to ship for ours to use for the day. We brought it back to the parking area by the ship when we were finished. An agent picked it up and I don't believe it cost more than $75US for about 7-8 hours including insurance.

The Kiwis are fabulous people! Explore on your own! We have returned twice since and rambed around the countryside.

Enjoy your trip!
