capriciousc Posted January 24, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 24, 2012 We will be cruising for the first time on NCL this March. I've signed us up online for the Latitudes program so we can start earning points right away. I was reading in a recent review that at check-in, they had two lines: one for Latitudes members, and one for non-members. My question is this: can we get in the Latitudes members line? On the NCL website, our status is listed as "enrolled", since we haven't actually taken the cruise yet. I don't want to step on anyone's toes or privileges, since I realize that customer loyalty should be rewarded. So if getting in that line would not be allowed (or even just be inconsiderate, given that this is our first cruise) I don't want to do it. We plan to get to the cruise terminal before 11 am, so maybe it won't even be an issue. I'm eager to hear the thoughts of veteran Latitudes members - would lining up with you be a faux pas? Or not even allowed? Thanks in advance for your responses!
computerworks Posted January 24, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 24, 2012 I wouldn't worry...last time we sailed from NYC, the regular line was shorter than the Latitudes line. :p
Sunkissed Mommy Posted January 24, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 24, 2012 No, you want actually be a member until after you complete your first cruise on NCL.
yoyocruiser Posted January 24, 2012 #4 Share Posted January 24, 2012 But to echo the above, I don't think it will amtter at all--especially if you are going to be early. soemtimes there are more people in the Latitudes line!!
Fine and Jim Dandy Posted January 25, 2012 #5 Share Posted January 25, 2012 Unless you are checking in to a suite, the lines you use for regular check in are basically all the same. The latitudes line is hardly a perk. With that said, you technically are not a latitudes member yet.
jdvmd Posted January 25, 2012 #6 Share Posted January 25, 2012 You are not a Latitudes member until you have completed your first cruise. You will need to stand in the regular line. It is not that big of a deal as the lines move very, very fast. If you are in a Suite, then there is a different area for check in.
wabbit42 Posted January 25, 2012 #7 Share Posted January 25, 2012 If you used the viewpoint that you are going on the cruise so you are a Latitudes member.... then everyone checking in is already a Latitudes member ;)
capriciousc Posted January 25, 2012 Author #8 Share Posted January 25, 2012 Thanks everyone for the information! We'll stay in the "regular" line. We're planning on arriving at the cruise terminal no later than 10:30 am, so odds are it won't matter anyway. Good to know about the suites - I wanted to stay in a family suite this time, but DH felt it wasn't worth the extra money, given the small amount of time we're likely to spend in the cabin. Perhaps this extra perk might sell him on a suite for our next cruise :)
GorillaPaper Posted January 25, 2012 #9 Share Posted January 25, 2012 I was also wondering about the "Latitudes line". My first cruise was just last weekend and so now that I've completed my first cruise I should qualify as a latitudes member. However, my husband is not. We will be taking his first cruise in march. Do we then get to go in the "lattitudes line" as I am a member or do we both have to be? I doubt that it matters since we just walked right up with zero line last weekend, but I was kind of curious. roger001 Posted January 25, 2012 #11 Share Posted January 25, 2012 As others have said, latitudes or not, there's little difference between check in lines. Usually there will be someone assisting you to a check in line, and that is frequently just whatever is the shortest line at the moment. Cruise before last, I was directed over to the casino players line. Good news, it all moves quickly. At Port Canaveral last week we got there by about 10:30 and when we checked in there were no more than a dozen other persons even in the terminal. We were through the whole process and sitting in the lounge waiting to begin boarding in less than ten minutes. By noon or so, a big crowd develops, but even longer lines then move pretty fast. GorillaPaper Posted January 26, 2012 #12 Share Posted January 26, 2012 thanks for all the info. I too experienced no line really at all last week in Miami, but I was curious just to know how it worked it if it ever really did come up.
