We are going on the Serenade otS with our daughter ( 11 years). I think she didnt want to stay alone in the cabin. But where is it allowed on this ship to take her with??? As she is german and speaks only school english i am not sure if she wants to join the kids club, and i dont know if the club is opened in the evening.

Last year we travelled without kids and like to join the karaoke nights in the safari club but i am not sure if she can go with us.

She can go anywhere that is not marked "adult" in the compass. Usually the karaoke is for adults but that is to sing. Not to watch (I don't think) And there are family karaoke nights too. She isn't allowed in the casino or the adult solarium. And usually the adult late night comedy. And the kids club is open at night if she decides to go.

The kids club counsellors generally speak one or two languages other than English. She may get lucky and get a counsellor who speaks German. If she knows some French or Spanish, it almost guaranteed that there will be one or more counsellors who speak those languages.

As an 11 year old, she will be with one of the more supervised groups, so the counsellors will definitely make attempts to include her in the activities. Have her try it.

It's easier to say where she's NOT allowed, than where she is allowed! The "adult solarium" is for 16 and older. The Casino is for 18 and older.....that's about it!

She can accompany you to any bar area, eating area and most shows! (If a show is "adult", it will say so in your daily Compass newletter!)

Thanks for you infos. Our daughter is only german speaking ( a bit english only)...

She is a very quiet girl, sitting with us and reading books. We enjoyed the pianoman beyond the safari club last time, and wanted to sit there a while listening.

After the concordia desaster i dont want to leave her in the cabin alone, even if she wants to...

Where are your kids in the evening?

You don't mention when you are travelling, but if there's time, your daughter might feel more comfortable with using English if she learns some phases she might need. Her school teacher might have some ideas or a good travel dictionary. A travel website might have a list of helpful phases. (All I can think of are "please" and "thank you" and "Where is the ladies' room?") She might even meet an English speaker who'd like to learn some German. Have a great vacation.

When she was just a bit younger (8YO) our daughter had a wonderful time with two Italian girls who spoke nearly no English -- DD spoke school Spanish (counting to 100, colors, and the like) but they managed to have a great time.

This summer we had four German teens who were participating in an Orchastra exchange stay with us for two days. The two girls (who shared our DD's room with her) spoke NO English, one boy spoke school type English (he understood more than he could speak) and one was relatively fluent in English (much more fluent than I will ever be in another language). The three girls (DD and 2 Germans) still managed to stay up far too late giggling as they pointed out stuff in Teen Vogue and Seventeen, and they went shopping together and managed to spend a staggering amount of $ at Abercrombie and Fitch and Hollister!

Thanks for all replies!

Our DD is already learning some phrases :p i hope she will have a great time there , too.

we are travelling around Eastern, and as we stay 2 weeks on board i think it will be easier when she knows the staff at the Adventure Club already.
