Armitage Shanks Posted April 1, 2012 #52 Share Posted April 1, 2012 the worst part is the vibration. This is common on most older ships towards the lower aft section of the ship. The vibration is caused by a long prop shaft. Basically there's a big rotating tubular piece of metal which spans the length from the engine room in the aft section of the ship all the way to the propellers at the very back. Newer ships (mid 90s onwards) don't tend to have this problem because they use usually have electronic interfaces instead of having one massive prop-shaft. Having said that I was on deck 5 on the Island Escape at the very back and didn't experience any vibration but I wouldn't be surprised if people on the lower decks did at the aft of the ship.
