Electronic Cigarette Policy on NCL

I did a search but can not find any information. Does anyone have any idea what NCL's policy is for electronic cigarette use? I know Carnival allows use in any indoor area except for the main dining rooms. Was wondering if NCL has a similar policy?

The NCL policy on their website does not specifically cover electronic cigarettes. However, it would appear to me that you are free to use them anywhere that cigarette smoking is allowed.

Using electronic cigarettes in non-smoking areas is sure to raise questions and challenges. Once on board, you can ask at the customer service desk about this and perhaps get a better answer.

The NCL posted policy is:

What about smoking on the ship?

We want you to be comfortable on board, so public areas throughout all our ships are smoke-free. If you smoke cigarettes, you can do so on your balcony, in the casino or in the Cigar Bar (where available). If you prefer pipes or cigars, you can smoke in the Cigar Bar or designated smoking lounge. Also, you can smoke cigarettes, pipes and cigars outside on open decks (just not around food venues, sports decks, kids’ pool areas and other designated nonsmoking areas). Smoking inside your stateroom will result in a $250 cleaning charge added to your onboard account.

That's a good question. I'd like to know the answer too since I quit smoking January 1st, using the e-cig. Now that you can't smoke in your cabin (well for free anyway) anymore, I'd like to know if my e-cig will be ok.

I don't see how they'd know you were using them in your cabin as there's no odour or smoke . That's the whole point of buying them to my mind, anyway.

I know they're banned on most flights and some bars/restaurants because it upsets non-smokers who somehow think you're smoking a real ciggie but in the privacy of your own cabin this wouldn't happen. I've used mine on the odd occasion I end up in a no-smoking hotel and had no issues.

I may be wrong but I thought when I saw one there was smoke just not with nicotine or tar. I have a son who wood have an asthma attack immed. I hope that you would think of that before using in the non smoking areas. Thank you so very much

Just the opposite. No smoke or tar just nicotine and water vapor. NCL currently has no restrictions on e cigs. Celebrity treats them the same as real cigarettes.

Thanks for the info.

Really? How can they treat them as real cigarettes when the FDA can't even do that? That is weird...And though I know it would be ok to use them where regular cigarettes are smoked that kind of helps to defeat the purpose of attempting to quit using the e-cigarette so I was hoping I wouldn't be banned from using them in the bars/piano bar/casino.

Use in the cabin would not be noticed at all since there is no smoke involved.

Actually I use my e-cigarette on airplanes all the time....Just go in the restroom. There is no smoke to cause issues with the smoke detector and nobody has a clue you are using them :)

OP please do your research carefully on traveling with e-cigs.

My research has found that there are more bans on electronic cigarettes than there are on regular cigarettes. You may want to check before taking them into ports.

They are banned in a few states, they are banned in Canada if they contain nicotine and they are illegal in some places like Mexico and other countries.

Because of the pressure from the pro-nonsmoker groups, no Government will do continued tests on them to see that they are not dangerous. And the thinking with incorrect information like the quote below only keeps them from further testing.

You are misinformed, as the other poster noted, they do not have smoke, they have vapour. Some have nicotine others don't, mine do not contain even nicotine because nicotine ones are banned in Canada.

I have a friend who has severe asthma and she let me try mine at her house, I was sitting about 2 feet from her on her sofa. She had absolutely no adverse reactions.

Actually though Mexico bans the import and selling, and though customs will confiscate at airports if you keep the battery and carts together, I have yet to hear of their use being prevented. We will just be discreet about it though. Only going to Costa Maya and Cozumel.

Mexico bans them because the government makes too much kickback from phillip morris :(

I don't know about Canada but they are not banned anywhere in the United States that I am aware of. Some places are attempting to pass laws banning their use indoors but luckily my state isn't one of them

Suit yourself, I did do many hours of research before my cruise to mexico and I was just giving you what I found and a warning to research carefully. You do whatever your little heart desires, personally I don't care.

BTW Washington has banned smoking of electronic cigarettes in public places.

I have done my research actually...I have been a member of the e-cigarette forum for several years. I do know that several states are banning smoking e-cigarettes indoors (which I personally think is ridiculous. How about they ban wearing perfume indoors as that is more toxic). But to date no state has banned actually owning an e-cigarette.

I've used mine in both the airport restrooms and while on the plane (in the restroom)...if you do it openly, it is like the Body Snatchers, the Pod People, pointing and screeching!

I've carried my e-cigarette through customs into Cabo San Lucas Mexico 4 times now, without even a blink...although I have had 2 cigarette lighters and an expensive miniature flashlight confiscated when leaving. (Each time the lighters AND the flashlight went into the pocket of the agent, not into the garbage can!) If the lighters and flashlight are in my carry on, no problem...only if they are in my pants pocket!

From everything that I can find, it is only illegal to import them into Mexico to be used for resale.

I may be wrong, or perhaps even correct...I'm just passing along my experiences.

Since I don't know you personally, I would have no way of knowing how much research you did, now would I. As I said I was just trying to be helpful by putting a warning out that they aren't unbanned as what some would believe. There is just a lot of people who don't know. If you reread my post it only said "do your research first".

I have nothing against them, I use one myself. I was quite shocked a year ago when I got pulled over (random check) at our land border and was held up for 2 hours trying to convince our Canadian Border Guards that mine were quite legal to own in Canada because they did not containe nicotine. Now when I cross over I simply take my real cigarettes since I have less hassle than e-cigs. Talk about ridiculous.:D

After the hassle I got coming across my own border, I certainly was taking no chances going into Cabo San Lucas:eek:. The last place I wanted to end up was in jail in Mexico. e-cigs stayed on the ship, real cigs came with me, at least I knew what the complete laws were on those :D

I've never used an e-cigarette while in Cabo....since one can smoke nearly anywhere!

I carry one only to bypass the smoke n@zies at the airport and to use, if needed, on long flights.

Mine got me stopped at security at the Miami airport a couple of weeks ago... only because it showed up on x-ray as an unidentified item... they searched my bag and the lady said, "Oh, it's an e-cig... no problem."

I've "smoked" it inside bars and restaurants in MD and FL with no issue... just not allowed to on the plane in between.... well, maybe not allowed to, but there are ways to be discreet... and like others said, the bathroom is available when needed :)

Smoking inside your stateroom will result in a $250 cleaning charge added to your onboard account.

Have anyone ever got caught smoking in their cabins and had to pay the fine????? Curious???? So, that means if you smoke in your cabin, you'd be charged the $250 for the entire trip???? So, what's to stop a smoker from smoking in their cabin and pay the $250 charge????

Well since this thread is actually on e-cigs, which has no smoke or odor. It would be pretty hard to fine anyone unless they had some sort of hidden camera and then I think there would be a far bigger issue than smoking in the cabin.

As for the 2nd question the policy just changed as of Jan 1st, I doubt much as been done about it in that short of time. I personally think if you are willing to pay the $250, get a balcony for that difference, problem solved.

Oddly enough, one of the liquids that is used to produce the vapor from a nicotine vaporizer (ecig) is also used in nebulizer treatments to deliver asthma drugs into the lungs for asthmatics. It is also used in fog machines for misty effects.

Gemsm, just to let you know, you're looking at at least a $5,000 fine for using E cigs in a plane lavatory. I work for the airlines and the Federal Air Regulations are very strict on this. Be careful unless you feel the money is worth it.

NCL treats these as regular cigarettes, in that they are not allowed in any non-smoking area. However, they cannot be detected when used in your stateroom.

Personally, I love them since I'm allergic to cigarette smoke. I wish all smokers could use them!

States that have legislature about banning e-cigs:

http://new-smoke.com/e-cigarette-news/e-cigarette-ban-which-states-are-affected/

by the way,,, I live in Washington & it is only KING COUNTY that has banned smoking them in public places & selling them to minors.

here u can click on state to see what the law is & any thing they are proposing:

here u can click on country to see what they are doing about them:

Kind of off topic but I see you did the snowmagedden cruise in Feb 2010...I was on the Jewel for that...Had to fly to Boston to get to Miami...It sucked :)

Actually i thought it was a $5000.00 fine for disabling the smoke detector and/or smoking a regular cigarette in the lavatory. There is no way to detect that I am smoking an e-cigarette in the lavatory unless they have cameras there...They are smokeless and odorless...If they have cameras in there to find out I would think the airlines would have a HUGE problem on their hands :D
