I am waiting for my official brochure, lol! Can't wait to go through it and learn all about Celebrity! I also printed out your deck descriptions which will be very helpful.

One more quick question, are all the hump balconies covered? It looks like they are in the pictures.

TO CRUISING OCEANGAL,

The Hump Balconies on the "straight away" are entirely covered... as HAPPY CRUISER 6143 says any sunshine they get comes in on an angle.

The Angled Balconies "Off the Hump" are also entirely covered, but they have that unique feature where their floor plan isn't a straight rectangle... so they do get a lot more sun than a regular balcony.

Look at the picture that RICO posted, you can see how that is prominent at the front end of the balcony near the glass... we never ever felt like our balcony was dark or cave like. Just a wonderful spacious spot... to relax and take in the view... any time day or night.

And being on the angle also afforded us a lot of privacy, from where I stood at the railing... I could see a great deal of the ship and other balconies... but because we were on the farthest point on the side of the ship no one could see us... (unless they were our neighbours and they stuck their heads around the partition wall)

BTW... If you look at a side-view of one of the S-Class Ships, you'll see that near the top of the ship there is a section of the ship that hangs over the balconies below... (top of the ship being wider than the bottom) and the balconies directly below that overhang get a HUGE amount of shade and not a lot of sun. By all accounts it just affects one floor of accommmodations on the ship. (certainly didn't effect us on Deck 10 - Sky Deck on the Solstice)

Hope this is helpful,

Cheers!

Thank you Sloop-JohnB and Rico!

I am new to Celebrity and am trying to learn all about the Equinox. Are the hump cabins a specific category? We have cruised Princess many times and love the larger balconies on deck 10.

There is also a "sticky" at top of page where someone keeps track of comments about the S-class cabins and displays on a spreadsheet. So you can look up cabin numbers and read positive and negative comments.

TO RICO,

I hear you on the footstools... but has been said here many times in the past on the CC CELEBRITY BOARD... if they did it for one they'd have to do it for all... and that wouldn't work (others not having the same space)

Currently, the 1A's are just a category within the Deluxe Ocean View Stateroom with Verandas grouping... which also includes... 1B - 1C - 2A - 2B - 2C - 2D - and AX Accessible.

Many have said, they wonder why Celebrity just hasn't done away with the 1As on the angles (Decks 6, 7, 8, and 9), and just make them Concierge Class instead (Concierge Class and above being the ones that get the footstools).

For now though, I think you'll find that most Cruisers are happy that Celebrity hasn't taken this action... as 1As are a lot cheaper, and folks would prefer that "perk" over the footstools for the most part.

Cheers!

As I,m going to be in cabin 6209 3/4 I,m going to ask my stateroom attendent for one of those footstools!! Wish me luck..

Thanks Linda and Sloop-John B! My DH and I prefer a half covered or covered balcony. Sloop-John B just read your cabin description on another thread, great info and details!

Waihekean, I just saw the sticky and plan on doing a lot of reading. :) Thanks for the tip!

Cruising Celebrity is a whole new experience for us. So nice having fellow CC'ers helping out! Thanks to the OP for posting this thread! Its great seeing the pics of the cabins, too!

Good luck msbptg, hope you get the footstools! Please report back if you do as we may request them......

Hi

I copied this from another post as i found the information very helpful for S class ships.

Being on the aft part of the hump there was virtually no wind issue to deal with. We got sun when we wanted it, and shade if desired as well. Due to balcony depth there were no privacy issues related to the angled shape.

There are 58 +/- cabins with the same size balcony we had - they are the largest: This is the corrected version!

Resort Deck: 2105, 2109, 2106, 2110

Penthouse Deck: 1547, 1552, 1601, 1605, 1606, 1610

Sky Deck: 1075, 1044, 1231, 1243, 1247, 1108, 1120, 1124

Panorama Deck: 9155, 9192, 9209, 9215, 9237, 9241, 9266, 9270, 9292, 9296

Vista Deck: 8197, 8160, 8257, 8253, 8279, 8283, 8226, 8230, 8252, 8256

Sunrise Deck: 7159, 7206, 7215, 7219, 7241, 7245, 7260, 7264, 7286, 7290

Continental Deck: 6155, 6156, 6209, 6215, 6237, 6241, 6210, 6214, 6236, 6240

Most of these are on the hump, but some are forward where the ship starts to indent. The rooms run the range from Category 2C, 1A, C1, or AQ (with the exception of 6209/6210 which are categorized as 07 Obstucted Balcony - great balcony at a small price!). There are also many cabins adjacent to the ones I listed that also have oversized balconies that are about double the size of normal ones, but I would go for the triple sized ones first .

Well, if you have lots of room in your luggage you could bring folding camping stools to serve as footrests. I think they also make blow up footrests too!

I think this is what you're talking about. We had the largest of the hump balconies and the overhang was completely unobtrusive. I love the hump and wouldn't trade it for anything.

TO MSBPTG,

I wish you luck... just be aware that many before you have tried and failed.

You might want to try out the trick that HAPPY CRIUSER 6143 has settled upon... she is going to dump the LifeJackets out of their "home basket" (found under the bed) and turn it upside down out on her balcony as a footstool. One of the most creative solutions to this problem I've read todate.

Although for a chuckle, nothing beats the topic here a few months ago on the "inflatable" (aka "blow up") footstools... wish I could find it because it had very funny posts (going thru Security with "blow up / inflatable" objects, using a pump, funny noises on balconies, etc)

Cheers!

As for the ones off the back of the ship... I was always under the impression from other posts here on the Board... Pictures that I saw, and even by eye-balling them from above on my cruise (Oceanview Bar) that the ones at the back of the boat were even larger... a different configuration mind you... more "tunnel-like"... but I always understood they were more square footage than a normal balcony... and even more than the "angled" ones.

Any clue as to where I might find extensive Cabin & Balcony details on the M-Class Ships?

I've always understood that the aft cabins on S class have regular size balconies and are entirely exposed to the sun. Didn't pay much attention to them after I read that.

As for the M class, here is the collected wisdom (from Cruise Critic, of course) on cabins with larger balconies. Sadly, the Mercury is no longer with us.

Each of the following cabins on the Millennium Class ships (Millennium, Infinity, Constellation, Summit) has some particular benefit over its peers of the same class -- most often an oversized veranda, sometimes larger cabin or nicer decor. Not all of these differences are accurately reflected in any known deck plans.

SS-6131,6132,6145,6146

CC-9043,9038,9201,9164,9162,9160

CC-8045,8046,8185,8176,8172,8170

CC-7203,7212,7208,7206

CC-6135,6136,6143,6144

Mercury - 1200, 1201, 1240, 1241

Connie, Infinity, Milli, Summit - 6135, 6136, 6143, 6144, 7203, 7212, 7208, 7206, 8185, 8176, 8172, 8170, 9201, 9164, 9162, 9160

2A-8161,8146,9173,9138

2B-7049,7080,7163,7166,7171,7173,7175,7177,7174,7176, 7178,7180

2C- 6016,6018,6020,6021,6022,6023,6024,6025,6026,6027, 6029,6030,6031,6033,6035,6053,6048

6131 and 6132 are the largest of the Sky Suites on the Connie and the Millie. They have larger cabins and larger balconies than do their counterparts.

The largest Sky Suites are 6145 & 6146, which are at least 100 square feet larger than the other Sky Suites.

Now that I read this last paragraph, it doesn't make much sense, but it was a cut and paste from some post on the best cabins.

From personal experience, I can highly recommend CC-6135, 6136, 6143 (note the numbers in my screen name), 6144. We snagged all four of those cabins for our group one cruise and it was great! They are back in suiteland, which is a wonderful area of the ships.

Here is a photo of the aft cabins on Solstice (my thanks to CC poster Bob278).

And here is a photo of the largest of the Sunset Veranda balconies, thanks to C 2 C. He wasn't able to give the number of the cabin, but I think it is 1674, from the landmarks. I am fairly sure this balcony is quite a bit smaller than the largest hump balcony.

TO ELENA7SEAS,

Thanks for the pics... ya, it does look like I am confused after all... although some of these look quite wide, I thought these balconies were also much deeper (must be pics I saw of the M-Ships)

Cheers!

You're correct. The deep aft balconies are on the M class ships. They are larger than the one you had on the Solstice.

We did a cabin crawl with our wonderful roll call group (shout out to the Primate Posse!) on Solstice in December, and although I would have loved the view on the stern, I would not have liked the lack of shade. And as others have said, our hump AQ balcony was much larger. That's what great about cruising, there is something for everyone!

Here are some pics from our balcony and that of our son and his partner, with the partition open. We were in 1608, they were in 1610:

And some from the aft cabins on our cabin crawl:

And lastly, since it was mentioned, a shot of the aft cabins on the Summit, from the Serenade of the Seas in San Juan:

Great photos. Especially that one of the dividing panel locked in open position. And I love that night shot.

Thanks for posting.

From the pics it looks like the opening between cabins is a pretty good size. Is it easy to move your chairs between cabins?

We didn't try to move chairs, but it would not be a problem to do so, at least with the hump balconies we had.

A couple decks below there was a row of 6 or 7 cabins who had the partitions open between their standard balconies:

I'm fairly sure that what you call the "first largest" and "second largest" balconies are the same size, and the "third largest " and "fourth largest" are also the same size. We were in 1605 and our friends were in 1601 and they were identical in size.

Some of the hump cabins have cabin attendant service closets in front of them, but I believe that it has already been determined that this does not affect the size of the adjacent cabin.

Also, I don't think that any of the sunset veranda balconies have more square footage than the largest of the hump balconies.

That was my understanding also. 1 and 3 back from the hump are the same and 2 & 4 are the same size.

Yes, the 1st and 3rd angled balconies forward of the hump, and aft of the hump are the largest. The 2nd and 4th in either direction are the next to the largest, by about a foot or two. All four are definitely larger than the aft balconies, which are standard sized.
