Shipbound Posted February 4, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 4, 2012 If you do tip a bar tender, do you tip as you order or at the first day of the cruise and go to the same bar tender? Gary
lady_cruiser Posted February 4, 2012 #2 Share Posted February 4, 2012 Even though tips are automatically added to our bar orders we always tip an extra $1 at the time of order is the service is especially good.
*Mach* Posted February 4, 2012 #3 Share Posted February 4, 2012 A 15% gratuity is added to the price of each drink so the bartender is being tipped. If you happen do find a drink waiter or bartender who goes above and beyond and you want to tip extra it's fine, of course, and very appreciated. I tend to tip at the end of the cruise, personally... some folks tip as they go along. There's no right or wrong here... :)
Justsyd Posted February 4, 2012 #4 Share Posted February 4, 2012 A 15% tip is included on each drink. We feel that is enough.
amillard222 Posted February 4, 2012 #5 Share Posted February 4, 2012 We usually find someone that we like and stick with them if we can, then we tip as we go along usually only $1-2 every other drink or so.
jayscore Posted February 4, 2012 #6 Share Posted February 4, 2012 Maybe it's just my imagination, but, if I go to the same bar tender and tip him a buck each time, my drinks seem to gain a bit more "octane", so to speak!;)
cb at sea Posted February 4, 2012 #7 Share Posted February 4, 2012 We never tip additionally, unless we're getting something really difficult to make...and our drinks are always "high octane"...very strong! I think the included tip of 15% is more than adequate to open a beer or mix a basic drink! If we frequent one particular bar all week and get good service, we will go on the last night and give that bartender an additional tip...we don't do it every time we order a drink! Martini Mom Posted February 4, 2012 #8 Share Posted February 4, 2012 I usually just let the 15% automatic gratuity take care of it. Rarely, we tip extra if a strong drink is poured (a "heavy" pour) or the person is super friendly and provides excellent customer service.
samiam0403 Posted February 4, 2012 #9 Share Posted February 4, 2012 If you do tip a bar tender, do you tip as you order or at the first day of the cruise and go to the same bar tender? Gary I've never tipped as I order, but if I find a bartender who is friendly and attentive, they definitely get an extra tip and I'll go to them for the rest of the cruise. I've had bartenders who, after ordering 1 drink from them, start pouring my drink as I approach the bar  - they definitely get an extra tip! And I've had bartenders who were just an absolute hoot or extremely personable - they also get an extra tip. Usually an extra dollar or two per drink, but on my last cruise, the bartender working the martini tasting was so friendly, and made such great drinks, that he got an extra $10. Next time we went to the martini tasting, he 'accidentally' made too many. :D Carnival really does have some outstanding bartenders - some of the best I've encountered. Chas19 Posted February 4, 2012 #10 Share Posted February 4, 2012 We just got off the Destiny. We were at the All star bar by the casino a lot and the bartender Joey was GREAT! We ended up tipping him $50 at the end of the 5 days. He was one of the best crew members I have ever dealt with. cathyz Posted February 4, 2012 #11 Share Posted February 4, 2012 We have never tipped for each drink as we go along, but when we have a favorite bartender, we'll tip them $20 or so mid-cruise and then again at the end. We usually end up doing that with 2-3 bartenders, especially on the longer cruises.
PDXJAS Posted February 4, 2012 #12 Share Posted February 4, 2012 I usually do not tip extra, I drink mostly beer, but we did have some drink coupons my sister had gotten for us from Bon Voyage and we tipped $1-2 when we used those. I will say the service got better after hte tip. When he first saw the coupon I could telol he was not happy about it,but when he got the tip he was all over us then. I think DH used a few to many coupons that night because the service was so good.
kcdancerkc Posted February 4, 2012 #13 Share Posted February 4, 2012 You can start out by giving a bartender an extra tip - then use that person over and over and they will be watching for you - as we also tip along the way.:)
funinthesun1964 Posted February 4, 2012 #14 Share Posted February 4, 2012 We used the serenity deck often on our last cruise (Ecstasy). The server there was friendly and attentive. I started giving him an extra buck whenever he bought our drinks. He was then even more attentive and friendly. He was great fun. One day he told me he would make sure I had the "best" bloody mary -- and it was. :) Can't wait for the next cruise for this. LOL - he asked us if we wanted drinks one morning around 10:30 -- I said "is it noon yet?" as a joke. His reply was, with a big smile "It's 5:00 somewhere!" Hope I run into him again on another ship.:D
beerman2 Posted February 4, 2012 #15 Share Posted February 4, 2012 Agree with most that extra dollar or two does make that bartender/pool waiter be more attentive. Last cruise we had a great /funny guy named Glenn ( with 2 n's he'd always say) that no matter where he was working either at the pool or theatre he'd find us and made sure we had what we needed!! ( Last call for bucket special how many you want?) I think our group of 6 people had 8 buckets in front of us. LOL
Rare patrice1 Posted February 4, 2012 #16 Share Posted February 4, 2012 We usually find someone that we like and stick with them if we can, then we tip as we go along usually only $1-2 every other drink or so. We do, too. And we'll also tip at least $20 at the end of the cruise.
JKJG3 Posted February 4, 2012 #17 Share Posted February 4, 2012 Usually a few different days during a week long cruise; we find ourselves ordering many hours worth of drinks while laying by the pool. I've found that throwing a small tip on the last round of the day usually finds me having the same server provide great service again later in the week. We also usually find a bar area we like and go get a drink before dinner every night at the same spot. If we keep having the same bartender, we'll add on an extra dollar or two. Many people have mentioned it and are right: You might find yourself getting a little extra "bang" for your buck.
mpillen Posted February 5, 2012 #18 Share Posted February 5, 2012 I have found that going to the same bar/bartender and tipping extra, resulted in many drinks not finding their way to my bill and the drinks being poured stronger...:D that makes me a happy girl!!! cruiseonthebrain Posted February 5, 2012 #19 Share Posted February 5, 2012 If we find a really great bartender early on (usually in the casino area) we tip about 20 bucks. We have have gotten served faster (and stronger).drinks once that bartender knew us. She was awesome on our last cruise. We tipped her another twenty the last night. I'm not sure if it was the money or my hubby keeping his creepy friend away from her:-)
