Disembarking in Venice?

Hi

We are disembarking in Venice from the Quest and need one nights accommodation before leaving at 08.05am the following morning from Marco Polo airport.

Should we stay nr the Marittimo Terminale & take the water transport to the airport OR stay in Mestre & take bus/taxi to airport? Is there a better alternative to either of those ideas????

Does Seabourn provide shuttle to Piazzale Roma?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Thank you!

Can't comment on a hotel stay as we stayed in a b&b that did not do one night stays.

However - no shuttle to Piazzale Roma. We sailed on the Spirit and she went out of San Basilio, not Maritima. We walked down to the vaporetto stop (not far) and caught it to Piazzale Roma. Don't know where the larger Seabourn ships sail from.

If you want hotel info there's lots on the Venice Port of Call section.

Ailmarsh, we stayed at the Foscari Palace right on the Grand Canal. You can take a water taxi from the dock to the hotel or, like us, hike it. We loved the place and were well cared for. It is in a good location for a last day of the trip in Venice. They arranged a water taxi for 4am:eek: to the airport. Fastest boat in the harbor! We were at the airport doors 10 minutes before the 5am opening time. Have fun.

We will be docking at San Basilio on 21 April. Exactly how far would you say the vaporetto stop is from the pier and is it manageable hauling a wheeled suitcase? After arriving at Piazzale Roma, I assume you take a bus to the airport? What time should we start this trek for a noon flight to Barcelona?

It's about a 5 - 10 minute walk, just one bridge to cross, not too steep. Vaporetto takes about 15 mins to Piazzale Roma, bus about 25 mins to airport. A taxi would be cheaper from PR to airport if time is tight. Airport check-in can be chaotic so I would set off between 8am and 8.30am.

We couldn't find anywhere to buy a vaporetto ticket before we boarded and risked travelling without one - you can be fined if you haven't got one, though. Maybe other people will come up with other ideas if you don't want to do the vaporetto route. You can take a land taxi from Basilio but I don't know whether there are many waiting there. Probably there will be some if they know a ship is docking. Again, other might know and will surely post to help you.

Jim Avery,

Thanks, I'll check it out. How far was the walk to the hotel with suitcases etc? Can you remember cost of water taxi to airport?

Has anyone used the People Mover from Marittimo to P. Roma with luggage?

It took about 30 minutes but then we did not get lost. Half the people in Venice at any given time are dragging roller suitcases. No cabs. The only real issue, as it is very early in the morning by Venice standards crowds are light, is lugging the bags over the many bridges. Steps up and steps down. If you dont feel up to that kind of a march, Take a water taxi from the docks direct to the hotel. Water taxis are not cheap but then neither is Seabourn and they do give you a mini tour of Venice every time you use one. The early AM water taxi to the airport was 120 Euros at the time. What a way to go!:D
