Kauai car rental

We will be in Kauai from 8-5 on the Spirit. There are 4 of us and we are thinking about renting a car and exploring. How hard would this be? Is there any way to find maps or whatever of things to see? Or would it be better to book a tour?

It is darn simple to do a self drive touring on Kauai. Head to your library for Hawaii travel books. Rental car shuttles are available at the dock, with several companies.

Driving is very easy in Kauai and on all Islands except Oahu. There is usually only one main road circling.

 

Every Travel agency car has maps with pages for each section of the island with attractions and of course advertisements. NO NEED for GPS IMHO.

 

You can do research and go in knowing what you want or simly winging it will also likely still yield a decent experience.

Book through Discount Hawaii Car Rentals. They are cheap and reliable! Just make sure to book in advance as rental cars rent out quickly.

:rolleyes: I am in the same situation as rlkubi, there from 8am to 5pm. Is this enough time to rent a car and do self touring??? THANKS

Kauai driving is very easy. Can go north all the way thru Hanalei/Princeville area, to Ke'e Beach at the end. That's the start of the Napali Coast. Or drive west and north to Waimea canyon. Can also go west then south to Poipu Beach.

 

We did a helicopter tour first -- it's highly recommended for Kauai, to see the Napali coast and Waimea Canyon and others.

Plenty of time to rent a car and drive/self-tour. So many things to see and do along the road - all the way up to North Shore is beautiful. Sometimes traffic because one main road. We rented a car for our trip next month - less than $20 via Priceline. Have fun!
