Highlander1 Posted February 20, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 20, 2012 Is water taxi the only way to access Marigot Bay Beach? Can we get the water taxi near the port (Castries), how long a ride and approximate cost? We will be there on a Sunday and are looking for a beach with facilities (rest rooms, snack bars) fairly close to the ship? Snorkeling would be a nice feature. Reduit Beach area seems to be congested and without beauty. Open to suggestions.
reedprincess Posted February 20, 2012 #2 Share Posted February 20, 2012 You can take a land taxi to Marigot Bay, it will cost around $100US r/t (the taxi driver will wait for you while you are at the beach, etc.) Marigot Beach is very small with no snorkeling and fronts the bay where yachts of all sizes dock - not exactly the best beach for swimming or snorkeling. It is more of a picturesque bay for boats and a lovely lunch. I think you would be disappointed in the beach. I could be wrong of course, but given the many other longer beaches on-island that are not also enclosed in a yachting bay, I would try somewhere else. Reduit is actually a lovely beach with lots of facilities. While it can become a bit crowded at one end near Spinnakers, it is a very long stretch of beach, you could easily go to the other end near the St. Lucia resort or even further down the end and still easily walk to the restaurants, etc. Another option may be Pigeon island. A lovely national park and beach area with a bit of snorkeling, facilities, 2 restaurants, some beautiful old ruins form the British forts, some hiking, shade, chairs, etc. Great place to spend a day - about 35 minutes, about $35US one way. Hope that helps, enjoy your visit.
