Is Carnival really a low income cruise line?

Recommended Posts

We usually book Carnival for less expension getway.

We book NCL for port intensive cruise such as Med and Alaska.

We have booked Carnival for Hawaii 2013 because NCL does closed loop and we did not want to fly to Hawaii.

I think you will enjoy Carnival since it is 7 days not one of fewer days.

How odd. I haven't read thru all the responses, but my initial reaction is... WHO CARES what others think.

Most of the time, they haven't even experienced it for themselves firsthand, and it is all based on hearsay. I say, go check it out & see for yourself! We have LOVED every one of our Carnival cruises, but are not opposed to other lines either (going on Princess to Alaska in a few months). I rarely listen, or base my decisions, solely on others opinions. I must find out for myself...maybe that's because I am from the Show-Me-State?:o

Not true in Colorado- they do use as many identifiers as possible. There was one just 2 nights ago here- a 6 month old Hispanic girl. So they use gender too.

Around here (the Baltimore/Washington Metro area) you'd be surprised how often that they issue Amber Alerts for a child with dark hair, and never mention if they're African American or Hispanic even though they are. Sure, they often show a picture, but if you're listening to a radio, looking at one of those ridiculous signs that slow down traffic, or not in the room where the t.v. is, they are leaving out vital pieces of information....that's a helluva price to pay in order to avoid stepping on toes.

you learn something every day. never knew spanish was a skin color. it certainly wasn't in my box of crayolas.

Now you're just being obtuse. Like I said, you don't even have an interest in trying to understand why it might be offensive.

The conversation evolved from the use of the word Spanish, to descriptions of people being sought.

Hope this helps.

I really need some feedback on this topic. Me and the misses were discussing a cruise that we booked with some friends last night and heard more than I expected in the negative field about Carnival.

I have no opinion as I have never cruised before on ANY cruise line but they way they explained to me on several situations how they were treated and also the class of people on board. I am not rich by any means but we did book a very nice 7 day trip for 2 just under $5k (which I thought I was really going all in).

Not sure if many of you guys have experienced Walmart at 11pm-4am, if you haven't, it's more than your human eyes can bear.

Hope I booked the right cruise.

BTW, it is the Magic that we booked. AND they told us we should have booked Celebrity.:confused:

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO :WalkThaFreekinPlank: First, Carnival is the #1 cruise line as far as number of passengers it has. If people were really unhappy on a Carnival cruise do you think they would go with the same cruise line? Carnival Cruise Line was started in the early '70's with one refurbished ship. Today it has the largest fleet of any cruise line. The Carnival Corporation owns six cruise lines. This came about because they know what they are doing and have a good business model. Other cruise lines are lacking in one or the other.

The class of people you have on board the ship is no different than you will encounter on RCCL, NCL, Princess (owned by the Carnival Corp.), or Costa(owned by the Carnival Corp.). It is basically a cross section of cruisers. Will you encounter crass people who don't know how to act in public? This could happen on any cruise line at any time. I don't let what others do affect me too much.

The Magic is a Dream Class ship. It can hold 3,600 passengers. You may experience long lines to go into MDR, lack of seats at buffett, having a hard time finding a seat in the theater. On the other hand you do have more options on almost everything than you might on a smaller ship. So there are some trade offs based on the size of the ship.

Last year we (my wife and I) went on another Celebrity Cruise. We found their food, which used to be almost as good as Carnival, severely lacking. It went downhill. The rooms seemed to have gotten smaller on Celebrity and the storage space is a lot smaller than what it used to be. We had to keep some clothes in a suitcase under the bed because of lack of storage space. Celebrity Cruise Line has cut down on the size of the public areas. So there are fewer places to relax at. They did make a library and a room they call the hideaway. These rooms were supposed to be quiet areas. However, they are off of the atrium and are not quiet places. If you want quiet you may have to go there very early in the morning. Your choices of food on Celebrity is rather limited. Although you have 24-hour room service (most cruise lines do) there is no 24 hour restaurant and you don't have ice cream practically around the clock like you do on Carnival and some other cruise lines. The seats in the MDR are harder to get in and out of. Celebrity used to be the best in service of the six cruise lines we have already been on. Not anymore. We don't think we will be cruising with Celebrity Cruise Line in the near future.

You made a good choice in choosing to take your cruise with Carnival Cruise Line. By the way, I like cruising and have nothing to do with the operation of any cruise line. I do not advertise nor am I an employee of any cruise line. I just enjoy spending my vacation traveling and going by ship is a very good and relaxing way to travel. I base my judgments on my experiences of the different cruise lines I have been on. I have traveled so far on: Carnival (10 cruises), Celebrity (4 cruises), NCl, RCCL, Cunard, Regal Cruises (went out of business).

if he were behind a french couple, would this have been so offensive to you?

none of it is offensive to me. and you haven't stated why it is offensive at all. is being spanish offensive or something to you?

Well said, trust me we are far from snobby people but at the same time I don't want to be around people cussing and getting drunk, etc etc.

I am not so much worried about it but my other half is now JUST because we are a Interracial Marriage. Have you guys noticed other similiar couples on the cruise?

I don't think you need worry about this at all. Yes, I have seen similar couples and it's not a problem that I have ever noticed.

Not to sound snobby, but we can (luckily) afford to cruise on the most expensive lines, if we wanted. We are low key, not foodies, and want bang for our buck. We have found a good fit with Carnival, for now. Who knows what the future may bring. If we listened to other's opinions, we might still think the world was flat!

I have friends who will only cruise Princess or Celebrity. We are in the same income bracket. They often ask me why do I keep booking with Carnival. My answer, it's a great cruise line. The price is right. I can go on two-three trips a year, to their one trip. We always have an awesome time. :D

From my previous experience, the higher the price tag does not equal classier people. Also the lower the price tag does not equal "walmart" people. This is a sad way to view the world and people need to take off the blinders.

Just because you paid more money for something does not mean you will receive a more quality product.

It certainly would not be fair to label Carnival "low income". Like you, the last Carnival cruise I went on was expensive and fun. Having said that, I do believe Carnival is dummying up their cruises a bit too much. We did 3 Carnival cruise in a row during the last couple years and the entertainment and food is not what I would call top level food for the money.

I can't remember the last time I was so thoroughly disgusted before 10:00 AM.

Really? I get disgusted everyday. And I am not talking about the elderly or the disable that cannot or cannot find work. I am talking about the people that choose to work part time because if they worked 40 hours they wouldn't qualify for food stamps or their rent would increase or they would have to pay for their electric. I am talking about those with the mentality that the more kids they have the more help they get. I am talking about those that drive $ 40,000 cars and pay $ 100 a month for them and their kids to live...

Not sure where you are from...but this is all around me. You can be as disgusted as you want, but I find people EXPECTING and actually MANIPULATING the system to get the handouts REPULSIVE!

And LOVE the fact when they get THOUSANDS of dollars back in tax refunds when they only made HALF of that, yet I have to PAY or get LITTLE back because I choose to work...

Like I said, that is a different thread.

I am not getting into major arguments. We just came back from the Carnival Magic. We loved it. The Italian Specialty Restaurant is great. Also try the Supper club. Really good. We LOVED THAT ship. We are VIP ON Carnival and love the line. We have also done Royal Carribbean and Disney. We had a suite on Disney. It is okay but not my cup of tea. I love the casino at nite. We did Disney once. It was very expensive. Loved the bath and half . I have met all types of people on the ships. One lady was so rude about Carnival at the airport. I finally went over and asked her how many ships she sailed on Carnival. She said none but she heard about them. I told her don't judge til you tried them. She did apologize about Carnival. There are nice people everywhere. I met jerks on an airplane that took my first class seats. Our plane was late in arriving. They gave away our seats. That was my last time on US Airways. They were bragging about Cunard. I told the kid he was a snot nose brat. Never thought they could do it. Go enjoy the Magic. YOu will love it. Don't let people tell you anything different.

Another thing....The people I know that bash Carnival are people that have never cruised on Carnival. They are basing opinions off other peoples opinions.

that used to be true.

now it's the person that remembers when carnival was on top of the game, and has seen it slide.

You hit the nail on the head! We have a group of friends we cruise with every year. They have ONLY sailed RCCL, some of them over 20 times...they would NEVER sail CCL, the food is horrible, the ships are ugly, the service is terrible...blah, blah, blah. ALL of our CCL cruises have been better than ANY of our RCCL cruises. Not that they were horrible, but all of the things, aside from the ugly ship part, was the opposite.

As much as I thought the Oasis was stunning, and had things about it that I loved...it was the worst food and service any of our cruises...and cost us more than any CCL cruise we have ever taken.

It just goes to show that everyone has an opinion that they know nothing about, and that is why I will always say something to correct someone when they start bashing on something that they don't know about...

LMBO!!!! Best response so far!!

I agree that was a pretty funny response, but I get what the person is saying. It is insulting, if you are Hispanic for someone to go out of their way to refer to the person abusing their food stamps as Spanish. Even if the individual was Spanish, it makes it sound like that had some kind of influence on their actions. I have an Italian Grandmother and a Greek Grandfather but I have never had anyone refer to those Italians or Greeks abusing their food stamps or I would be insulted too. If the race or ethnicity has bearing on the purpose of the statement, such as being able to find a missing child then use of a descriptive word to describe race or ethnicity is desirable but if the race or ethnicity of the individual has no bearing on the meaning of the statement there is no reason to include it. A good rule of thumb would be to ask yourself if you would normally have included it even if the ethnicity were white or Caucasian. If a child were missing, most authorities would not hesitate to refer to the "__ year old Caucasian female abducted from....." so it is appropriate to refer to the "__ year old black female...." or the __ year old Hispanic female...". In the case described they refer to the "Spanish couple using food stamps to buy fooD but paying for their beer with cash". Would they have referred to the "white couple using food stamps to buy food....." I DON'T THINK SO!

Absolutely! I would rather set my expectations based on experience from multiple people than go off what a couple told us. Thats the sole reason I posted this thread. Thanks!

I have to disagree, I have never been fortunate enough to sail on a 7 day cruise because my DH is quite against spending this amount of time on a ship and they were all very enjoyable and while there always seems to be one group of young adults enjoying themselves, the norm is a very nice mix of passengers, none that I am offended by or that are behaving low class. (OK, except one time when a girl was very drunk and was practically undressing by the pool,:cool: if my children were present, they would have been escorted from the area, it didnt ruin my cruise and there were plenty of drunk people on our RCL cruise that didnt ruin our cruise either).

And..I dont really like the "low income" mind set, why do people who make a lot of money think they are better then those who have "low income". Low class on the other hand, regardless of the size of your salary, that is what I am hoping you meant with your question. I am the same person now with a higher income then when I was starting off in life with a lower income.
