tracyanns Posted February 29, 2012 #352 Share Posted February 29, 2012 Being an Interracial Couple does matter to us. When you get a chance, drive thru a rural town and imagine stopping in to a small restuarant. ALL EYES ON YOU! trust me. That isn't just interracial...there are plenty of places that 2 of the same can go and get the same looks...but you know what, who cares...give them something to look at and have fun with it...that is what we do...:D

I think a certain segment of society is doing the opposite of evolving lately. When the OP posted asking if this would be an issue, I was totally taken aback because I thought the question was bizarre....it should be bizarre and that it's not scares me. halos Posted February 29, 2012 #355 Share Posted February 29, 2012 How do you do that? That's a good option to have :) Click on the posters name Click on View Public Profile' When that comes up, right under the person's name on the left, click on User lists...you will see 'add to ignore list' Click on that, then it will ask you if you want to add this person to your ignore list and confirm that. I see you are in Maine and I know where I lived in Maine it wasn't very diversified to say the least. I can say that in my 4 years of High School we only had 2 non-white students, so because of this we have no bias...but because of movies and stereotypes and everything, it gets worse every year...I am not surprised by the question at all, just surprised why he cares what others think... ElvisAndretti Posted February 29, 2012 #361 Share Posted February 29, 2012 sorry, but that just tells US how YOU think. Funny, that's exactly what I thought too. I can't imagine why one would mention ethnicity (and the proper term is Hispanic, not Spanish, which is a nationality. A Spanish national would most assuredly NOT be eligible for US Food Stamps). So the OP was just giving us a little bit of descriptive into? why not Fat people? or tall people? Short peope? I ain't a dog, but I know what a dog whistle sounds like. agabbymama Posted February 29, 2012 #363 Share Posted February 29, 2012 Thanks! I sure hope so! And by the way, I didn't think HAL was all that. Boring and yet NOT upper classy by any means! Although the destination (Alaska) was amazing, I'm curious to find out why it's "considered" higher class cruising. Well, I found the fresh flowers about the ship, all the wood/brass letting you know you are on a ship, the teak wood promenade deck that surrounds the ship (no up a deck or down a deck to continue all the way around the ship), teak deck chairs with blankets against the cold, real wash clothes in the restrooms (not paper), friendly smiles from any crew you meet (not just your cabin steward), the best beds afloat, the Elemis products in your cabin, the classy Navy/white paint job of the ship, high tea in the afternoon, etc. are just a few of the things that make it a little nicer experience for me (you may not call it classy, but to me it is). I don't partake of all the contests on-board, art auctions, movies, etc. that you find on all the major lines, and I have no interest in sailing with 5000 other people or 900 children. Don't need a Central Park onboard, or a golf course or a wave rider or a rock climbing wall. If I want to see Central Park, I'll go to New York City. If I want to play golf, I'll go to a golf course. I'm on a cruise. I do enjoy watching Karaoke or sometimes the piano group in a bar. And I do enjoy Bingo and the casino. And dining out every night, if I don't have to cook it and clean up, I'm a happy camper. I don't cruise to the Caribbean over and over and over, as I'm not all that into the beach or laying in the sun. The ship is a mode of transportation and a hotel to allow me to get to places that can't be driven to. HAL fits for me. While the demographics may skew a little older, so does Celebrity. I actually saw many more scooters/wheelchairs on Celebrity. And to answer the others saying they haven't seen a beer drinking contest, or limbo bar contest, or hairy chest contest, Newlywed game, etc. I did say that it was many years ago that I was on Carnival. If they have eliminated all these type of games from around the pool area, I would imagine that now the events have all been upgraded to keep up with the times. cruisebaby812 Posted February 29, 2012 #364 Share Posted February 29, 2012 Well said, trust me we are far from snobby people but at the same time I don't want to be around people cussing and getting drunk, etc etc. I am not so much worried about it but my other half is now JUST because we are a Interracial Marriage. Have you guys noticed other similiar couples on the cruise? My husband and I are interracial and enjoy carnival. Everyone has been nice to us...even older fashioned ones. And he loves the clubs cuz the music is more towards us. But we don't go worrying about what others think of us. We go to have fun. We live in sc, so we are use to the looks. But don't care! We are happy and so is our family. So don't worry and go have fun!!

LittleMiss Posted February 29, 2012 #366 Share Posted February 29, 2012 um, I don't agree with your statement that RCI uses more at sea days. We are taking our first RCI in December and have 3 Port Days on a 6 nighter. Carnival Freedom from FLL does a 6 nighter as well. RCI also does a Coco Cay, St.Thomas and St.Maarten route. They also do a West route with 4 stops like Carnival.... Yes you are correct, but RCI on a 6 day cruise has 3 port days... 50/50 but how many cruises on RCI can you find that has a port a day? Very rare... But Carnival has many. I'm really not in any position to debate on this, look it up yourself the proof is right on each of their websites. I'm not speaking out of my head, my facts are what they are Facts that are written in Black and white. Check it out. But do understand, Carnival does have some Cruises that may have a few days at sea as do any other, but many of the 7 or 8 day. Cruises you can get a port a day easy. Can't say the same for RCI
LittleMiss Posted February 29, 2012 #367 Share Posted February 29, 2012 The problem is, LittleMiss is only describing one class of ships, which is only 2 out of 22 ships. She should have said Oasis, not RCI. A sweeping generalization cannot be made of RCI based on 2 ships. Yes, Oasis Class cruises are totally about the ships. When you cruise them, like Tapi described, you cannot wait to get back on board. They are that great. However, RCI does have plenty of other ship classes doing plenty of other itineraries like Asia and Europe where the ports are #1. But even with the european cruises even then I notice it could be a 12 day cruise but best believe that 6 of those days are at sea. The numbers speak for themselves... ElvisAndretti Posted February 29, 2012 #368 Share Posted February 29, 2012 He's a one percent-er, don't ya know? He can probably buy his friends, so whats the point in attempting to make any on a lowly cruise message board? I always thought a 1%-er was a hardcore motorcycle outlaw, usually holding a patch from one of a few very large clubs (Pagans, 81, Outlaws) and I would be very surprised to see them on a cruise, cause you know, there's a sign by the door "No Patches, No Attitudes". ;)

Like I said earlier, Oasis and Allure do have more sea days than most Caribbean itineraries, but your sweeping generalization is just simple false. As for your Europe comment, I found no cruises as you described (6 sea days) except re-positioning and trans-Atlantics - on which more sea days would hold true for any cruise line. Others, with less ports, have overnights in those ports. Other than Oasis Class, RCI generally has no more sea days than any other cruise line, including Carnival, so please stop passing false information. elcuchio24 Posted February 29, 2012 #370 Share Posted February 29, 2012 What's your definition of low income? Under 100k? Well then maybe... if you are talking about actual low income in the sceme of national average, then most folks onboard would probably fall into the middle to upper middle class. Don't kid yourself, many Americans never TAKE a vacation, let alone a cruise. Pretty elitist to consider any cruise a 'low class' cruise when many people are just trying to feed their kids. And I certainly wouldn't equate CCL to walmart. Most of the major cruise lines are very similar as far as passengers go. RCL,NCL,CCL,etc.

JennLuvs2Cruise Posted February 29, 2012 #375 Share Posted February 29, 2012 I have to agree that I don't think any cruise line carries "lower class" people. I cruise every June or July and spend about 4K doing so for my family and that's just for an ocean view and without airfare! Not many Americans, especially lower income, can just spend 4K+ for a vacation. That's a lot of money for some people.
