LOP Posted March 7, 2012 #2 Share Posted March 7, 2012 anything you normally pay for. It is exactly what it states...an onboard CREDIT. Enjoy it:D
dthomaso Posted March 7, 2012 #3 Share Posted March 7, 2012 Everything you purchase on the ship, i.e., drinks, photos, spa treatments, etc. is accumulated on your debit list. At the end of your cruise you are billed for this debit amount. OBC is an credit amount that deducts an amount, in your case $200, from this debit list. One word of advice. OBC is use-or-lose. If you have a credit amount remaining at the end of your cruise, it is forfieted.
Rare uktog Posted March 7, 2012 #4 Share Posted March 7, 2012 I suggest you check the position re advances at the Casino, certainly on Azamara, you can now no longer use some types of OBC (the use or lose type) in the Casino for cash advances. When we were on Celebrity in September you could but subject to a 3% (heard recently 5%) fee which was applying to cash advances. Just not sure if Celebrity has gone down the same route as Azamara now and said no use of restricted OBC for casino cash advances Its not an issue for us but might be for some folks
Happy Cruiser 6143 Posted March 7, 2012 #5 Share Posted March 7, 2012 One word of advice. OBC is use-or-lose. If you have a credit amount remaining at the end of your cruise, it is forfieted. Not necessarily so. Some OBC is refundable. It will be indicated on your account (R is refundable, N is not). Generally speaking, OBC from Celebrity is not refundable, so use it or lose it. OBC from your travel agent is refundable, and should you have a balance left, it will be credited back to the credit card you assigned to pay for your on board charges. Should you have a bunch of nonrefundable OBC, you can withdraw it at the casino by paying a 5% fee. Although I've heard that lately there is a minimum $50 withdrawal. Lsimon Posted March 7, 2012 #6 Share Posted March 7, 2012 I've never even come close to having to worry about using up our on board credit. I sure wouldn't lose any sleep over this. If you get half way through the cruise and realize you might not use up all your credit then do what it is designed for: Go out and have a good time spending it! Get a massage or spa treatment, have some coffees from the coffee bar, enjoy a martini or some wine, buy some of those ship photos or even have your portrait taken one night, go on a ship's excursion, buy some souvenirs or gifts at the ship's stores, buy some flowers for your companion. Enjoy yourself!
Denny01 Posted March 7, 2012 #7 Share Posted March 7, 2012 Linda is right, there are Refundable and Non-Refundable OBC's, but there are Refundable's that come from Celebrity, such as a canceled tour. If you prepaid for a cruise line tour, and cancel it while on board prior to the cutoff (usually 48hrs prior to the port tour), it will be added as a refundable OBC to your account and if you don't use it, you get a refund on your chargecard. The normal process is, the Non-Refundable (N) OBC's are used up first on your OBC, while the Refundable ® is then used after that. So if you end up with a postive amount and you had Refundables, you get the credit back. Need to watch how it works on your OBC account that shows up on your TV during the cruise. And so as not to get too worried, it takes a day or so for the OBC's to be added to your account, so it may not be there until later into the first full day after sailaway. It has shown up for us after the 1st day in all cases. But it is best to take some type of info on what you expect as proof just in case. enjoy!
