Yorkshire Pride Posted March 8, 2012 #1 Share Posted March 8, 2012 Hi all We are booked on Oceana in September going to the Med,we were really looking forward to it until we read a couple of reviews which were really bad. Leaky roofs on all decks with buckets in corridors, rusty cabins and balconies. Leaks near electrics, I know some people moan about anything but these problems seem quite serious. We don't know whether to change our cruise or take a chance that these reviews are exaggerated. We know that its having a refit in December. Your comments will be much appreciated. tartanexile81 Posted March 8, 2012 #2 Share Posted March 8, 2012 We've just come back from a 35 day cruise on the Caribbean and we can honestly say we saw none of those things on Oceana. We prefer the newer ships but it's not a new ship like Azura etc so can't be compared. Yes, the cabins need some freshening up and yes, the cabins/ balconies are on the small side but we had a great time. It was the second time in 12 months we'd been on Oceana and we wouldn't hesitate to go again if we liked the itinerary. Ignore the whingers / nit-pickers; the cruise will be what you make of it so go enjoy.
lancashire_cruisers Posted March 8, 2012 #3 Share Posted March 8, 2012 Hi We've just come back from a fortnight on Oceana and I didn't see any of what you referred to. Yes she is due a refit in November/December this year so as a consequence isn't 'out of the box sparkly' but we had a great time. Debbie:)
annieuk Posted March 8, 2012 #4 Share Posted March 8, 2012 If you go to the P&O site and go onto their Community forum you will find someone sending reports from Oceana. There are also lots of reviews of the ship. We too are going on her in September - this will be our third time on the ship and we can't wait. No she is not a pristine, new, huge ship but I bet you will still say "Wow" when you first go into the atrium, and that you will have a great cruise. Carole:)
IanT1960 Posted March 8, 2012 #5 Share Posted March 8, 2012 I'm going in September too. Are you going on the 14th? Ian
Rare Host Sharon Posted March 8, 2012 #6 Share Posted March 8, 2012 I was on Oceana for 24 nights last November and had a great time. Aside from a problem over the table assignments the first night it was great. She looked in remarkably good nick from what I saw considering some of the reports I read as well! somersettop Posted March 8, 2012 #7 Share Posted March 8, 2012 Hi I'm off on the Oceana soon and have been trawling cruise critic for hints and tips, I found this http://cruiseforums.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1394928 which was really interesting and does not match up to the bad reports, some people look for the bad in everything! The link above had a lot of info and tips, also links to video that the posters took that make the oceana look really good. The one thing I'm looking for is copies of the daily planner for the oceana so if anyone out there has some to post the will get a big virtual hug from me. Enjoy your cruise

daiB Posted March 8, 2012 #9 Share Posted March 8, 2012 All ships have rusty bits... thats why they are always painting them. Perhaps if they kept away from sea water as that tends to be bad for rust and that. Gan Canny Dai

Rare Presto2 Posted March 9, 2012 #11 Share Posted March 9, 2012 We followed our first cruise on the OV2 with a 2 week cruise on the Oceana in 2010. Last year we moved to Celebrity's new ship the Silhouette (for a big birthday and for the Holy Land itinerary). How does Oceana compare to a brand new ship ? We absolutely loved her and every minute on board - if you check our review of the Silhouette you will see that we 'missed' Oceana, She is not as new BUT she really is beautiful. If the itinerary for Aug 2013 was changed from the 2 week Med Cruise we would book in a heart beat. When we were on her they were replacing carpets and seemed to be constantly touching up the paint etc to keep her 'fresh'. Have a fabulous cruise :)

jenny wren Posted March 10, 2012 #14 Share Posted March 10, 2012 We are not long back from 35 nights on Oceana ...Transatlantic and she was very comfortable, even though we were high up and very forward ! Food was good, entertainment average (but I understand the CD has changed now) plenty of room everywhere and plenty of sunbeds on the many sea days. Nothing to worry about !!:)

We are looking next year at Queen Mary 2, anybody been on her? Much appreciate your comments. Ah, the QM2 - now she is a different beast altogether. Who could not love her the minute you board - the elegance, ambiance, teak decking everywhere, live music in every bar, including at dinner (string trio etc). My one issue was that transatlantic you could have been on a train, so steady was she. I do like to feel I am on board a ship !! https://picasaweb.google.com/114801993219771801790/CruiseShipsQueenMary2#

Enjoy your cruise Thanks Somersettop for recommending our Live from Oceana thread for hints and tips! :) We are back on Oceana next month to the Canaries and can't wait. Our trip last year on Oceana was following a cruise on Allure of the Seas which was huge and brand new so we too were concerned that Oceana might feel too small and dark having read negative reviews. I can happily say that Oceana still held her own as a lovely mid-sized ship. Have a lovely holiday Yorkshire Pride!
littlesteelo Posted March 10, 2012 #17 Share Posted March 10, 2012 Am I right in thinking Oceana is going into drydock from 22nd November to 8th December?
littlesteelo Posted March 10, 2012 #18 Share Posted March 10, 2012 Just been looking over on the P&O forums, and they say the 10th December cruise on Oceana has been cancelled, and I assume the party cruise on the 8th too. It seems she will be getting a bit longer in drydock.
