Funcouple Posted March 15, 2012 #1 Share Posted March 15, 2012 Our ship will be in town from 8am - 5pm. We are a mid 40's couple who will be visiting during late November. We plan on doing some light touring during the earlier hours and then plan on settling down around 1pm or 2pm for some relaxing fun/drinks/music/people watching until we need to board the ship by, say, 4:30. What are some options to do this on the way back to the ship where we can hang out for the afternoon?
emcee207 Posted March 16, 2012 #2 Share Posted March 16, 2012 One of our favorites is Schooner Wharf, by the "marina" which isn't far from your ship if your docked by Schooner Wharf. Casual funky KW atmosphere, open air venue, good music by Michael McLeod and lots of good people watching. There are several other places near there also that are kind of similar. I'm sure some of the very gracious locals who regullary contribute on this board might have some other suggestions
Aquahound Posted March 16, 2012 #3 Share Posted March 16, 2012 Louis gave good advice with the Schooner Wharf. In fact, that whole area is fantastic for relaxing with a cold drink and people watching. Right around the corner on the same boardwalk is the Conch Republic Seafood Company. They have a huge bar area with giant aquariums and outdoor seating. It is right next to Jimmy Buffet's recording studio.
emcee207 Posted March 16, 2012 #4 Share Posted March 16, 2012 I meant to say it is close if your ship "is docked at the pier by Mallory Square." There are a few other places they dock or moor which is further away, but still doable by walking or taxi or peddle taxi, which are lots of fun. The attached pics are; 1. Some of the crazy sights while sitting at the bar at Schooner Wharf 2. My wife pointing the name of the street where the Half Shell bar is. LOL, she is convinced they named the street after her. 3. Some of the fishy sights you'll see at the Marina. Also, Tarpon hang around here all the time and you can feed them or just watch them, especially if a charter boat has just come in and is cleaning some of their catch. keywester33 Posted March 16, 2012 #5 Share Posted March 16, 2012 Good advise so far. Schooner Wharf would be great and the walk along the harbor is nice. Another option right near Mallory Square would be Sunset Pier at Ocean Key House.
molly361 Posted March 26, 2012 #6 Share Posted March 26, 2012 Another vote for Schooner Whard and Conch Republic!!
Knights on the Beach Posted April 2, 2012 #7 Share Posted April 2, 2012 It's great info like this that causes us to have to arrive at Schooner Wharf Bar early when cruise ships are in town (and we're there on a land vacation). It's a sacrifice we're willing to make. ;) It's our favorite daytime bar in Key West (and often end up back there later at night as well).
