Seven Mile Beach

:) We just returned from a Western Caribbean cruise on 4/21 and we had perfect weather and a wonderful time on Seven Mile Beach. We decided to just shop and beach it. We did not do ship's excursions. We took a taxi down to the Courtyard Marriott and did not even bother renting chairs.....we laid out our Carnival beach towels and loaded on the suncreen. The water was gorgeous and the breeze was awesome. Our ship was only in port until 2:00 PM, so not a lot of time in Grand Cayman. People are extremely friendly and island is in the rebuilding stages still. Our taxi driver is still not in her house after 8 months (still no roof).

We headed back to catch the tender and decided not to wait in the blazing sun with the hundreds of others waiting to get back onboard. We ran across the street to Breezes by the Bay and had terrific drinks and conch fritters while we sat outdoors with a great view of the water and the ships in the ocean. Overall, we liked Grand Cayman, but enjoyed Cozumel even more. I suggest the Courtyard....for beaching it.....

The beach is across the street from the Courtyard Marriott and is a public beach with no access to hotel facilites. However, if you want a lounge chair they are for rent at $10 each. This used to include a water or soft drink, but I don't know if it still does. I would be interested in knowing if there remains any shade at this beach after last year's Ivan hurricane. There used to be quite a bit of shade from seagrape trees along the beach, but our taxi driver 2 weeks ago advised there was no shade left anywhere along that area of the beach. So we just stopped at the Royal Palms beach where the lounges are free.
