Where to Watch a Sailaway?

We will be in Venice when friends depart on their cruise. Is there a particularly good spot/location from which to watch the ship sail away?

You can't get any closer than Gelateria Nico on the Fondamente Zattere al Ponte longo and you can have a gelato while you wait- relatively uncrowded

I'd certainly recommend something on the Zattere waterfront -- it's all restaurants with outdoor seating, so pick your poison. I remember going to a pizza place there with amusingly-named pizzas: I think I had the 'Stand Well Back!' garlic pizza.

Zattere is about a mile from the cruise terminal, but the ships are quite a sight as they pass. You can get from one to the other on the #2 vaporetto.
