Skagway car rental

Help! Avis is sold out for our day in Skagway. Has anyone used PB Cruisers or Sourdough rentals? Are their cars ok? Thanks.

I've used Sourdough, had an "old" car, but made the run just fine. If you think about it, reports of break downs and poor conditions would be all over these boards. Book who has the availability at this point.

Are they really sold out - or just the Avis website/800 number telling you that? We called the 800#, who needed convincing that they had an office in Skagway, and were told they were sold out - but then emailed Lori at the Skagway Avis office (alaskamaiden2002@yahoo.com) and she had a car for us. The Skagway office is apparently not connected to Avis' central computer system.

The Skagway office is in some way connected to the Avis central system because we rented a car in Skagway through the central system and it's "in the system" in Skagway.

I have heard of some people who were able to rent through the central system, but apparently if it looks like it's sold out or doesn't work, they still might have cars left that aren't in the system only available if you book directly...very strange, but very Alaskan. :)
