Your favorite restaurant in London

Recommended Posts

We'll be staying in Paddington and wondering if anyone has any favorite restaurants in London. I have been to London several times but never really found any favorite restaurants of my own, really haven't found anything memorable. Figured I'd ask some experienced people who might have recommendations.

There are so many and so many different types that it is nigh on impossible to recommend one that you may like - however here's one to think about:

This is high end (not cheap) but the art deco ambience is unique and the food is superb. Nearest tube is South Kensington (just round the Circle line from Paddington)

I have never been to London but in planning for an upcoming stay I have been intrigued by the number of "interesting" names found in London. Two of my favorites near our hotel based on name alone:

The Laughing Gravy http://www.thelaughinggravy.co.uk/

Camel and the Artichoke Pub

The Laughing Gravy is listed as one of Trip Advisor's Top 10 restaurants for all of London. They must serve up some tasty gravy.

I am also intent on trying Yo! Sushi, based on an article I read some time ago in the Guardian regarding the role of this chain in the globalization of sushi.

Love the title of the article: How Sushi Ate the World

Serious foodies seem to be attracted to any of the Gordon Ramsay restaurants, especially Petrus and the Restaurant Gordon Ramsay.

I'd recommend NOT stopping at any of Ramsays higher end establishments. I felt for the prices the service and quality weren't there. At the end of the meals when I'm thinking the French Laundry is a steal I think there's something seriously wrong.

We were taken to Skylon (above Royal Festival Hall) recently by friends : it was lovely, convenient to Waterloo and therefore very easy to get to. Great views across the river. We were in the fine dining restaurant, which is a bit expensive, they had tried to book the Grill but it was booked out. Very busy and atmospheric, great food. It really felt like a special occasion. http://www.skylon-restaurant.co.uk/

I also like Clos Maggiore at Covent Garden, very atmospheric with a good reasonably price pre-theatre menu ; http://www.closmaggiore.com/

Just for you to be aware, the gravy we serve in the UK, is completely different to the 'gravy' you have with biscuits in the south of the US.
