Lanyards (for your cruise card)?

I like to carry my cruise card (you know, the one that lets your into your cabin, on and off the ship, and is your onboard credit card, don't know what NCL calls it) or S&S Card as we call it on Carnival, on a lanyard around my neck so I don't lose it. :D I was wondering, do I have to bring my own or do they sell NCL ones in the shop onboard? I like to collect different ones from different cruise lines!! :D I also don't want to be without one (trust me, if I just carried my S&S Card in my pocket, I'd lose it for sure)!!

Also, one more thing (sorry). :o How do they mark underage (20 or younger) cards? I know some cruise lines put a hole in the card of underage cruisers. I normally punch a hole in my card to put it on my lanyard so I don't want to make a huge mistake, punch a hole, then not be able to buy any drinks all week!!

Thanks a lot!!!! :D :D

They do sell lanyards in the gift shop. We bought one last week on the Jewel for $4.99 - there were several colors and I think two different designs. You can get the card itself punched at guest services.

My sons' cards had one corner cut off to note their age.

We purchased the lanyards when we were on the Gem. They even had ones with the Nick characters for kids (and, no, my DH wouldn't let me get one ).

The gift shop punched the hole into it for us to use ASAP.

The one problem we encountered was that on Carnival, the ones you got in the casino were that springy stuff - so you could clip it to your belt and use the slot machines. The Norwegian ones we had to take from around our necks to use. Not a "problem"; however, I had to keep making sure DH took his from the machine he was playing.

They clip the corner of your card to note you are underage.

If you are underage but 18-20 y.o. and have parential consent to drink beer and wine you get a "P.C" printed on your card.

If you are 21 or over nothin is done to your card.

Punching it will not have any effect on drinking ability.

Thanks!!!! I can't wait to try NCL!!!! :D

Now, there's an idea!! :D I never knew they had those on Carnival (and I'm Platinum, just goes to show how much time I spend in the casino, which is none). They're strechy right? Do they sell those anywhere on land (other than in a casino)? I would think they'd be better than a regular lanyard (something you don't even have to unattach from yourself is even harder to lose)!! :D

Thanks to you as well!! :D I'm 27 so don't have to worry abo0ut any forms/waivers to allow me to drink :D but I look really young (most people guess I'm somewhere between 15 and 18!!

I haven't looked around (yet) for the stretchy kind since we just got back on April 1st from our cruise. DH definitely wants a different type for September.

I'm sure you can find them all over the net though.

Unfortunately, I think you can tell how much time we do spend in the casino. ;) (I know I have a ton from Carnival - I just (1) don't want to wear a Carnival item on a Norwegian ship and (2) would have to start searching the house for them!)

I just got off the Spirit a week ago. There was a little kiosk selling lanyards for $4 inside the terminal after you pick up your sail and sign card. It had a clear plastic sleeve to slip your card into. If you want it to be more secure you could punch a hole in it. That is what I used to have customer service do to cards in the past so it would attach to a lanyard. This one for $4 worked fine. It did not say NCL, it was plain in various colors.

Lanyard: About 3 ft of lamp pull chain. You know, this pearly chain for old light fixtures. On board the Reception will punch a hole in one corner opposite the magnetic strip. If it’s a bit too long, tie a knot in it. That will add weight to keep the card from flapping in the wind. Any good hardware store should have the chain. I use the reamer on my Swiss Army Knife to drill the hole.

If you are that prone to losing your card, you might want to bring a lanyard with you. You won't be able to purchase one on board until after the ship sets sail.

Last year that had racks of them in the terminal for everyone raring to go! When I went to look for them later on in the cruise the selection that was put out for availability was paltry.

Where would we find lanyards?

We received level-appropriate lanyards when we achieved our loyalty status.

However, you can also purchase them here, or on board. I carry one of these in my carry on so I can get my card around my neck as soon as possible. If I don't, I'll lose it in minutes!!

I wouldn't recommend them for anyone, especially kids. The best and safest lanyards to use are the ones with the easy breakaway safety clip that rests on the back of your neck.
