Bringing liquor onboard

We are new to Oceania. Are you allowed to bring rum, rye, vodka, etc. onboard. I know you can bring wine. We are on the Nautica, conciege veranda, do they have hair dryers in the bathroom? Has anyone been in cabin #7009 or #7011? Do they have a duty free store at the pier in Barcelona? Thanks.

Yes, you can bring liquor on board for use in your cabin. O is exceptional with this.

Yes, there is a wall mounted hair dryer in all the cabin bathrooms.

Yes, there is a duty-free store at the main cruise ship terminal after check-in.

However the R-ships, such as Nautica, may dock at the World Trade Centre (a great location at the very foot of La Rambla that the larger ships do not use (I've read Marina has occasionally too). There is a small shop that I think sells wine and soda pop. I only bought some pop there (before 'free sodas' on board) . Sorry, I don't recall liquor.

Check your cruise documents when you get them as they will tell you which terminal the ship is scheduled to use.

Enjoy the cruise.

We were on Nautica last Fall in a PH & the hair dryer, as another poster said, was stored in the closet & I used it in the desk area where there was a plug & mirror. We didn't have a wall-mounted one in the bathroom.

We also left from Barcelona from what looked to be the main port area, there were larger cruise ships there. There was a small duty free shop with a variety of beverages (liquor/sodas/wine), I don't recall what else? We had purchased some wine & liquor at a grocery store near our hotel, then bought more in other ports as needed. Our itinerary took us through the French Riviera & down the Italian coast, great ports for sampling/purchasing a variety of local wines & spirits. :D

When you bring rum, rye, etc. on board do you put it in your suitcase or carry it on, in other words do you hide it?

We put it in our carry on ..no need to hide it

I would look at the new Drink Packages before lugging extra bottles onboard

It may work out for you

We boarded in Miami for the T/A this spring on Marina...we had bought 5 bottles of wine..as well as a bottle of Vodka..it was packed in a 6 pack professional box by the liquor store in Miami.

We told our porter that it was liquor...and he accepted it., with a luggage tag for our cabin..and we expected to see it on board....but we did not find it with our luggage when delivered...

We went to the front desk to ask what had happened to it...they said that they had the box...and one of the bottles had been broken..and that it really wasn't appropriate to bring that much liquor on board...that was totally not what we had expected based on previous experiences on board O!...we were given back the box...with the one broken bottle missing..but that was only after explaining to the front desk..that the O policy was that we could bring this on board!!!

Just our experience!! LuAnn

If I were you, I'd name the guy who took it upon himself to offer you that unsolicited criticism of what you take onto the ship with you.

It was none of his business, and he should have kept his opinions to himself.

Completely agree with the J&S point above. As inappropriate as one person's action may have been, take heart. We boarded Marina late Feb with after handing our customary case of wine to the porter. We completed the registration process and walked down the gangway for the initial card swipe. There was our wine at the ship entry and a most helpful asst. cruise director who escorted us to our room. He carrying the wine. We invited him to join us for an instant tasting. He politely declined and wished us an enjoyable voyage. JR, if you read these things, thank you again. We still owe you.

Hope you future experiences liken to ours.

As Don H. has put it so eloquently in the past, Oceania treats its passengers like adults. Whether liquor is in your carry-on, large luggage or brought on via porter, there is never a concern from Oceania. I was appalled to read what happened to LuAnn. That is very unlike Oceania.

As were we! We were treated like criminals...and we had to go to the desk..to even find out what had happened to the box...no contact from O until we did that...and then they treated it very "hush-hush"...as if they were embarrased that this had happened..as in we should not have brought this on board!!! That settles it... I'm sneaking my wine on board :) I'll put a couple in my carry on bag and then maybe some well wrapped in my luggage.

I am also wondering now that they have an onboard alcohol package whether they will try to stop drink being brought aboard.

That's the great thing about Oceania. One doesn't need to sneak!

But I'd hate the experience of the poster above who was "told off" for bringing 5 bottles of wine and one of vodka onboard!!

Ok I won't sneak it but if questioned I will certainly quote this messageboard :)
