Luggage Question

We are flying a red eye flight from Los Angeles to Newark Liberty. We will arrive very early and are looking for options for our luggage so we can tour the city. We booked our flights separate from our cruise on RCCL. Has anyone shipped their luggage prior ahead? Any creative ideas so we don't have to haul it around with us??

Where were you planning to ship your luggage to? Someone has to accept it. That is a major trip hazard when people suggest this. Plus, you will find the costs are pretty crazy. Now if you were flying in the day before, and staying at a hotel, something could probably be arranged. But the cost factor is still there.

The choices are getting a taxi or limo tour, and thus putting the bags in the trunk. Or a group bus tour, and putting the bags in the belly of the bus.

After a cruise and before a flight home, we had a cab driver take us to a downtown Seattle hotel. We took our luggage to the bell desk and flashed a $20 bill. They were more than happy to store our luggage while we toured the city for the day.

If you're flying on United, there is a luggage storage facility in Terminal C. Here's information (Note:This information was posted on Cruise Critic last year...it would be wise to call this company to make sure the facility is still operating):

Newark Liberty International Airport

Terminal C, Lower Level

Luggage storage operated by NBS Storage and Delivery

7:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m.

+1 (908) 933-0503

$10.00 to $16.00 per piece per day (depends on size)

Must have ticket on United Airlines

After a red-eye before another overnight flight, I'd sure want to get a day room at a nearby hotel, making baggage storage a moot point. But if you're going to stay up: I'd call the luggage service no matter what airine you're taking. They may be able to make arrangements (assuming they're still in operation).

Before that, phone the airline for your international flight and see how early you can check your bags. While there are generally limits on how early you can check in, there are sometimes exceptions. I once asked US Airways how early I could possibly check our bags, and they said as long as the check-in counters were open, we could check our bags for the same day. Worth a call, at least if it's a U.S. airline with flights all day (if it's an international airline that only opens in the evening for nighttime flights that obviously won't work).
