Cruising for the first time with our young child

Hi. This is my very first post as I am new to Cruise Critic. We have just booked our first cruise- 12 nights around the Med in August. We have a three year old son and was wondering if anyone had any tips and good advice for what we may do as a family at any of the following ports:

Dubrovnik, Kerkira, Argostoli, Santorini, Catania, Naples, Rome, Livorno.

You didn't mentioned what cruise line or what ship -- but those are other areas you can check into.

In Rome especially, I would recommend a private excursion. Often, because there are 3 (or more?) of you, a private excursion is no more costly than a ships excursion. You can find recommendations on the ports of call boards for private excursions. Often, people on the roll calls will have private excursions that they want to share with others.

 

My ds4 loved Pompeii out of Naples. We also used a private excursion for this, but it's so close, you can use the ships excursion.

Thanks to all of you that have pointed me in the right direction. I have been exploring the different forums on Cruise Critic and finding out lots of useful information. We (three of us) are booked on HAL Nieuw Amsterdam.

We will be on the Nieuw Amsterdam in July! We'll be on her for 24 nights.:rolleyes: We'll be in a large inside -me , 2 teenagers and a 7 year old. Lol. If you have questions about the ship, I've done lots of research .

You will need to be careful of the heat and risk of sunburn. There are many types of sun protection clothing made for people of all ages and sizes but especially for children. Hat is required!
