Want more towel animals?

Recommended Posts

I am middle aged and the towel animals always make me smile. It is a fun and unique part of the cruise experience as we never see those on any land vacation. I would never bribe the steward for them though.

I've been cruising since the '80s and absolutely love the towel animals...it's just one more unique thing about a cruise vacation. The first time one appears in our cabin (usually midway through a 7-night cruise), I make a point of telling our cabin steward how much I enjoy them, and they seem to get more detailed every night thereafter. And to the cigar roller, I think that's a clever way of tipping. We typically tip our waiters/stewards several times throughout the cruise along with notes thanking them for special efforts they've made. Why should they have to wait till the end of the cruise to know we are satisfied?

The wife and I try to guess what it will be before we enter the room that night and yes I do like them too. Never tipped for them but they could use the towels in the bathroom to to use another to make more laundry.

We will be sailing on our very first cruise this coming March. I, for one, can't WAIT for the towel animals to appear. Why? Because it's one of the first things that would come to mind when I envisioned what a cruise would be like. I simply just associate them with cruising and would be very disappointed to not have them.

As far as if towel animals are worth tipping over, well that would depend on whether or not they are important to you. If they are, and you want more than your fair share of them, then you are asking for extra services from your attendant and it would be nice to throw a little 'extra' his or her way (in whatever form you desire... cigar form included).

I think this is what it all boils down to... what's important to you. And if something is 'important' than, by all means, tip away!

We plan to be a bit on the demanding side when we first arrive. We plan to ask our attendant for the following (we are in a B1 on the Allure):

1. Open the divider on the balcony between us and our travel mates

2. Get us an egg crate for our bed

3. Get us robes (we believe they will be there already, since we have a balcony cabin, but if not, we will be asking)

4. Empty the mini fridge

5. Bring us ice and continue to do so daily

6. Feel free to provide all the extra towel animals you desire to create :p

In exchange for our long list, we will tip him or her extra on day one as a way of letting them know we appreciate their services. If they continue to deliver daily, then we will tip them extra again mid-week. These tips will be above the expected allotted tip given at the end of the week. For me, those tips are for the general upkeep and servicing of the room. Any above and beyond service I will reward accordingly... and that includes towel animals ;)

Long live the towel animals :D

One minor note, balcony cabins don't necessarily come with robes. Robes are considered a perk of suite guests and those who are Platinum or higher with Crown & Anchor.

That said, we were Gold and had them in our Central Park View cabin on the Oasis of the Seas, so I'm sure that if they're not otherwise there in your cabin, asking for them shouldn't be a big deal.

We are lowly Gold and had them on our balcony on the Allure!!!

Off topic, my best friend has family out in McMurray. We ride our motorcycles out there to visit them. Ride into Pittsburgh and visit the strip district, hit The Meadows for a little gambling, and also the Harley Davidson store for T-shirts:D!

Oh, and can't forget Sarris for icecream!

I love the towel animals. Then again, I've only cruised twice and never seen them anywhere else.

I'd be sad to see them go.

The chocolates are awful... taste like paper.

That's cute, but you really should get those bunnies spayed and neutered. ;)
