JohninDC Posted May 21, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 21, 2012 Cruising RCI Mariner and will be in Cannes in July; two quick questions: Will we tender in to Cannes or go pier side? We're looking for a nice beach but do not want to spend 30+ Euros each  -- any cheaper sandy beach suggestions that are not too far from town? Thanks! :)
Rare Hlitner Posted May 21, 2012 #2 Share Posted May 21, 2012 You are in luck when it comes to Cannes and a cheap beach. There is a sandy beach (a rarity on the Riviera) only a few minutes walk from the tender pier. Just walk across the parking lot (keeping the sea on your left) and you will quickly come to a sandy beach ( its called the Plage du Midi). The beach is free although you might want to pay money to rent chairs. There are plenty of cafes/restaurants within a short walking distance of the sand. Rare ollienbertsmum Posted May 21, 2012 #3 Share Posted May 21, 2012 We missed the Plage du Midi and walked along the beachfront La Croisette and after the expensive beach clubs reached the public beach which was free. It was really windy the day we were there so the beaches were almost deserted. I think on a really nice day the public beach would be crowded which would be the disadvantage of getting a free dip. This is pretty common (missing the public beach) since most folks will normally walk along the marina into the heart of town (the opposite direction from Plage du Midi). We have stayed in Cannes on several driving trips (during the busy summer season) and never had a problem using the public beach. Of course the alternative is to use the more popular beach in the center of town where you can pay "big bucks" to use the beach and facilities. tom_uk Posted May 22, 2012 #6 Share Posted May 22, 2012 Cruising RCI Mariner and will be in Cannes in July; two quick questions: Will we tender in to Cannes or go pier side? Thanks! :) You'll tender, into a corner of the marina close to the Palais des Congres - where they hold the film festival. (It's actually a big, ugly, modern building right on the water-front.)
Rare TLCOhio Posted May 22, 2012 #7 Share Posted May 22, 2012 In addition to the so-called beaches in this general area, there are other options. As noted by Hank, some of the beaches are not very sandy, nor gentle in slope, etc. There are also other nearby options to see some of the mountain village/locations and/or the scenic coast. See one of my photo examples below. Lots of options!! THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio Did a June 7-19, 2011, Solstice cruise from Barcelona that had stops in Villefranche, ports near Pisa and Rome, Naples, Kotor, Venice and Dubrovnik.
