Insuring flight only???

Does anyone know if it is possible to insure just a flight, but not the cruise (which is insured thru the cruiseline).

I have been looking online for insurance to cover just a one way flight to Europe, but the recommended companies seem to only offer insurance for the entire trip.

In general, you can insure as little or as much of your trip arrangements as you'd like so just insuring the flights is usually no problem.

However, if you need coverage for pre-existing medical conditions some insurers require that you insure 100% of your trip cost. So if you just insure the flight you would not be eligible for the pre-ex coverage since you did not also insure the cruise with them. But there are many choices that don't have this restriction.

Also, you don't mention which cruise line you're using but several will cover independently-booked flights at no additional cost so you may already have the coverage you want. For example, this is from Royal Caribbean:

"Pre-Departure Trip Cancellation For Independently Booked Air

We will pay a Pre-Departure Trip Cancellation Benefit, up to the amount in the Schedule, if you are prevented from taking your Covered Cruise Vacation due to your, an Immediate Family Member's, Traveling Companion's, or Business Partner's Sickness, Injury, or death or Other Covered Events as defined, that occur(s) before departure on your Covered Cruise Vacation. The Sickness or Injury must:

a) commence while your coverage is in effect under the plan; b) require the examination and treatment

by a Physician at the time the Covered Cruise Vacation is canceled; and c) in the written opinion of the

treating Physician, be so disabling as to prevent you from taking your Covered Cruise Vacation."

The "up to the amount in the schedule" referenced above is:

"PART A. TRAVEL ARRANGEMENT PROTECTION

Trip Cancellation for Independently Booked Air....................................Up To Total Original Airfare Cost

Trip Interruption for Independently Booked Air........................Up To 150% of Total Original Airfare Cost"

The full plan wording is here:
