sbtagent Posted May 24, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 24, 2012 No cruiseships will call on Oslo, as long as the pilots in the Oslo fjord is on strike ( from today ), the ships will have to find alternative ports to visit.
sbtagent Posted May 25, 2012 Author #2 Share Posted May 25, 2012 RCCL will probably have chaos here in Oslo this weekend, when they are supposed to drop of 2500 pax and let new pax on, - this will have to happen somewhere else as the Oslofjord pilots, all 42 of them, are on strike. Emerald Princess turned around in the fjord yesterday with 3000 guests, and 2 Aida ships where locked into port of Oslo, but later was allowed to leave Oslo with their pax. Next year, RCCL will not have Oslo as embarkation port for Vision of the Seas.

jd10367 Posted May 25, 2012 #4 Share Posted May 25, 2012 Next year, RCCL will not have Oslo as embarkation port for Vision of the Seas. That would be too bad. It was a great place to take a cruise from. We had an enjoyable (if expensive) stay in the city when we cruised out of there. Easy transportation, plenty to see (Munsch, Nobel Peace Price, historic fort, outdoor natural history museum), clean, friendly.

No Oslo call this week, RCCL has chartered 60 buses to take new pax to Gothenburg, Sweden, which is approx. hours by bus from Oslo. Gothenburg is also a nice place to visit, but I doubt they get a pier close to the city center, like in Oslo.

I have noticed on some news sites that Bergen and Alesund are also mentioned. We are due to leave next weekend for a whole week of Norway ports, do you think it will impact on any other ports? Only asking as it states that strikes will resume on Tuesday after your national holiday on Monday ? Many thanks.

Norwegianlatvian Posted May 26, 2012 #8 Share Posted May 26, 2012 The strike in Norway is a BIG shame. The union doesnt look to the world around Norway, and doesnt seem to understand the difficult economical times in rest of Europe. ZERO sympathy.
