$hip$hape Posted January 11, 2013 #26 Share Posted January 11, 2013 Thanks for the handy decoder ring! I don't know why, when some starts a thread, they don't spend an extra moment to spell out an acronym. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1758284 Anyway, here's another for the befuddled, such as I.:)

Still haven't figured out how to get a PDF into my signature. So I'll just add the updated list here. cruise acronyms.pdf

che5904 Posted January 12, 2013 Author #29 Share Posted January 12, 2013 Thanks again to Cheri for starting this! Thanks Linda. It's a little funny how this came to be. We don't own smart phones or any newer texting friendly cell phones. As my DH would say we just own old "dumb" phones. So with the exception of texting my local casino host to let her know when I'm coming or if I want a comp for something, I don't text. Needless to say, my acronym knowledge of todays world is limited. When reading these threads, I found myself many times on google typing in the acronym to try and figure out what others were talking about, unless it was fairly obvious by the sentence. Then once in a while I would see other posters asking what something stood for and realized, although probably in the minority I wasn't alone in my lack of knowledge. So I decided to share for others in the same position. I did request from admin to have this as a sticky but never heard back from them.

Never had heard of this stuff before until I got on Cruise Critic. I was seriously lost at first with all the "D- Whatevers." In the beginning, I never went to look anything up so I just formed my own interpretation. BTW, let me say, I love how we call each other by our first names. I wish others would. I am thinking I should probably sign each one of my posts with Linda.
H&J Posted January 12, 2013 #31 Share Posted January 12, 2013 If you are too lazy to spell it out, post it on the carnival site. I have a couple of abbreviations for you but they would get me banned form the cc sites (again) if I used them.
Rounder Posted January 12, 2013 #32 Share Posted January 12, 2013 Hey, kid, Thank you for compiling this list. Awesome job. When i first came on board, like most people, i didn't know what all the Dw's, Sil's and so forth meant. That being said, i can't recall the last time i was accused of being smart. This should definetly be a sticky, hopefully it will be. ":D Beats me, but then again I'm as old as dirt." taken from one of your post's. Ha,Ha, i used to alway's say that, then i noticed, people started to agree with me. :( Hence i don't say that anymore. Lol. My, DW, i lovingly call " TVTMBO " meaning " the voice that must be obeyed " like that will ever happen. Once again, many thank's, have a great day ! Rounder Posted January 12, 2013 #34 Share Posted January 12, 2013 (edited) You always make my day Vic, maybe one day we will have the pleasure of sailing together. Thanks. That would be my pleasure. :p Many, many, many, year's ago, when i lived in Galt, Ontario, now called Cambridge. It was either the Legion, or one of my favorite haunt's, they had a fairly good size wooden plaque, over the bar. Burned on it were the letter's , " IYBMABIWTYWIM ", that dang thing drove me crazy, ( maybe it was only a short putt  ) For many month's i tried to figure what those letter's meant. If you figure, it out, i owe you one. Ya, it would be fun to cruise together. As you can see we are on the Dawn, Feb.3/13. Will have a wobbly pop for you. regard's, Vic P.S. that offer is open to anyone. Until it's solved. Happy cruiseing to all. ;) Edited January 12, 2013 by Rounder

Telling DH about this post and that we had to now book a cruise in Feb, he informed me that would be an awful expensive pina colada. So I guess maybe 2014 will have to do. Enjoy your cruise, the Dawn holds a special place in my heart because she was our first cruise ship. I'm sure you will love getting away from the deep freeze and snow you have been blessed with this year.

dinek1 Posted March 17, 2013 #50 Share Posted March 17, 2013 List is great. As others have said, some of them are obvious but others have been difficult to figure out.
