Cannes or Marseeille

We dock at Cannes one day and Marseille on the other we would like or visit one and wonder which one people recommend and also if there is a oldy worldy town near the port at either of these two places

There is quite a bit near either place and lots to do as well...I suggest you get a guide book and look up both places to see which one you think you would like to visit as they are both very different in opinion.You can Google each as well.Also, you can read down these pages to get some ideas as to what other people do. Then you can ask specific questions when you have decided.

Not sure what you mean "oldy worldy". But Marseille is close to Provence and Les Baux and Arles. You could also visit Saint Remy, Aix, or the Pont du Gard. It is a great port, not for what is in Marseille, but for its proximity to a great region of France.

I agree. Marseille is the gateway to this wonderful region.

Just been on probably the same itinerary as you will be on (EPIC?). We used Marseille to get to Aix en Provence and loved it. ( our original plan was to go to Arles but we just missed the train) and used Cannes as a chill out day, as we had been to the Cote d'azur several times. If you are on the Epic, then it would be good to have a chill out day at either stop.
